Description
M+ is a museum dedicated to collecting, exhibiting, and interpreting visual art, design and architecture, moving image, and Hong Kong visual culture of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The Associate Archivist is responsible primarily for implementing business records management, preserving the institutional memory of M+, and for contributing to the work of the Archives and Library (A&L) team who acquire, catalogue, preserve and provide access to the M+ Collection Archives and the Institutional Archive. You will be responsible for: working with other M+ and WKCDA teams to examine current record keeping practices, and to implement an information management policy and procedures for paper and digital records created by M+; appraising, cataloguing and preserving paper and digital records created by M+ as part of the M+ Institutional Archive, and according to international archival standards and internal policies; managing access by staff and the public to M+’s Institutional Archive, and for promoting its use in telling the story of M+ through digital/print platforms and museum exhibitions working with other museum teams as needed; supervising the work of the Research Centre Assistant, A&L interns or A&L Assistants as required; using professional archival knowledge and knowledge of the M+ Collection and Institutional Archives to provide assistance and advice to all other departments of M+ and WKCDA; undertaking other duties, as part of the M+ Archives team, relating to the management of the archives and the daily running of the Research Centre; performing any other duties from time to time as reasonably assigned by M+. You should possess a recognised postgraduate qualification in Archives or Records Management, or in Library/Information Science; have at least four years of experience within an archive, library or museum, or preferably, in a records management position; have extensive experience in the use of database systems and data standards to catalogue and manage archives and/or digital assets; have some experience in writing and updating procedure documents underpinning archives management in an archive, library or museum; have experience in the physical management of archival material, including putting in place preservation procedures and working with preservation equipment suppliers; be a good communicator with experience in building relationships to ensure compliance with archives and records management procedures; have awareness of the particular legal responsibilities around working with records and archives in Hong Kong, including data-protection and public sector records management guidelines; be proficient in written and spoken English and Chinese with an ability to write and present confidently in both languages.
