Description RLC is seeking an Associate Civil Engineer (Structural) to join the growing civil/structural engineering team. This position will entail work on a variety of electric power projects including substations, transmission lines, wind and solar generation plants, and battery storage facilities. This individual must be self-motivated and eager to work within a multi-disciplinary team. Essential Functions of Position: Perform structural design calculations and analyses of existing and new steel structures and concrete foundations using IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI codes along with industry design guides. Learn and apply concepts and design references specific to the electric power industry. Prepare design criteria, calculations, and specifications. Work with designer/drafters to prepare plan sets. Coordinate with internal design team members. Other Functions of Position: Attend site visits and project site inspections. Review construction submittals. Requirements A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited school with a focus on structures. Engineer-Intern certificate in Maine (or other state) or ability to obtain within one year of employment. Zero to two years of professional experience with employment in structural engineering design work. Knowledge of structural loads, steel design, and reinforced concrete design. Computer skills in the use of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite. Report to Hallowell or South Portland office a minimum of two days per week. Excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively communicate within the organization and outside with clients. Preferred Qualifications: A master’s degree in structures. Exposure to design software such as Mathcad and RISA (or other finite element analysis software).
