JOB TITLE: Associate Corporate Commercial Lawyer
LOCATION: Lagos
DIRECTLY REPORTS TO: Senior Associate
DIRECTLY SUPERVISES: Junior Associates and Youth Corpers

JOB SUMMARY

The Associate works closely with other colleagues to provide legal clients’ services on transactions or cases. He/She conducts research on transactions or cases to properly manage clients’ requests. The Associate develops and discusses legal strategies, gathers evidence to support claims, prepares legal documents and represents clients, based on assigned industry, in court on legal matters. The role holder provides updates on on-going legal matters and regularly consults with Senior / Leading Associates for guidance and supervision.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • LL. B; B.L
  • Appropriate certifications in a specialized field of Law is an added advantage

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2- 4 years post qualification experience as a practicing counsel

Responsibilities
  • Work co-operatively in a client group team, to provide quality service (sound legal opinions and technical advice to clients) in a timely manner
  • Draft, interpret and review of agreements, legal reports, engagement letters, and other legal documents
  • Assist in researching cases and legislation and applying relevant laws /decrees/regulations to cases
  • Assist in negotiating, executing, terminating, and administering contracts, agreements, settlements
  • Assist in representation in litigation proceedings, arbitration proceedings and enforcement proceedings regarding court orders and arbitration awards
  • Responsible for preparation of scope of work, fee matter estimates and quotations
  • Manage ‘work-in-progress and collections’ in accordance with firm’s guidelines and standards
  • Adhere to firm’s time management protocol and use of resources in order to achieve optimum productivity
  • Liaise with clients and other professionals on sharing information and knowledge – such as work progress status, legal proceedings and positions and other related legal issues
  • Make constructive contributions to the non-chargeable activities of the firm - “black table and committee meetings”, article writing and posting on designated sites, time recording, case file management, etc
  • Comply with procedures set out in the Employee Handbook and other firm’s procedures Manual and as well as professional standard
  • Attend Training, Seminars, Conferences and other professional meetings as may be required
  • Carry out other duties given by the partners and client group coordinator(s) faithfully and diligently
