This position will work with First Nations communities, agencies, and other partners for the purpose of creating and developing course content for a laddering program into Indigenous mental health and wellness. This position may be located in Prince Albert, Saskatoon, or Regina or remote if needed under the direction of the Program Coordinator, faculty of Indigenous Health. This position is responsible for developing multiple courses within the Bachelor of Indigenous Mental Wellness program. They will be meeting with Elders and Knowledge Keepers to ensure the spirit of the Wasakama program and BIMW recognize the needs of First Nation Communities within Saskatchewan. This position is reflective of a faculty position in that it meets all five of the duties (curriculum development, scholarly work, service to the University, working with community, working with Elders/Knowledge Keepers) and is not based upon one course, as identified in the Collective Bargaining agreement. This position is dependent upon external special project funding and is not a permanent position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The candidate must demonstrate experience in these qualities or have the equivalent of these competencies:

  • Ph.D. or a minimum of a Masters in a research-intensive discipline, such as Social Work, Sociology, Health Sciences, Nursing, Education, and/or behavioural sciences.
  • Proven experience conducting independent, social science research is required and the capacity to engage Indigenous communities in developing a Mental Wellness Program.
  • Teaching experience is an asset.
  • Experience in health or related field is an asset.
  • Have strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Be comfortable with a variety of computer programs (word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Ability to manage their own workload, meet deadlines, report to a supervisor about updates on progress for review.
  • Effective research and design skills with attention to accuracy and detail.
  • Education experience, especially in an Indigenous context, considered an asset.
  • Intercultural competence including intercultural sensitivity and adaptability, and the ability to conduct oneself professionally is essential.
  • Saskatchewan drivers license an asset.

Responsibilities

Community consultation and course development of a laddering project between the Wasakama programming and the Bachelor of Indigenous Mental Wellness Community Consultation (BIMW-CC) degree program:

  • Design, conduct, and develop courses within the BIMW.
  • Collaborate with community Elders, Knowledge Keepers, administrators, regional coordinators, and others to drive the vision and success of the Indigenous Mental Wellness program (BIMW)
  • Involvement in the development and delivery of BIMW learning assets and knowledge translation.
  • Willingness to travel, sometimes up to five (10) days per month.
  • Work closely with the Wasakama team to explore laddering options.
  • Work flexible hours to attend meetings, community consultations, meeting with faculty, and travel.
  • Attend and run many meetings, and work with stakeholders.
  • Engage in data collections and scholarly activities.
  • Work with Knowledge Keepers and Elders.
