The OSI enforces New Mexico law on insurance matters, including consumer protections, review of insurance forms and rates for accuracy and fairness, and helps New Mexicans address insurance concerns. We oversee and regulate most kinds of insurance in New Mexico, and we license the individuals and agencies that sell insurance in the state.

Why does the job exist?
In 2024 the NM legislature passed the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act directing the Office of the Superintendent of Insurance to collect pricing and rebate data across the entire supply chain and to report these findings starting January 1, 2025. The purpose of this position is to assist the with the aggregation and technical analysis of reported data. This position will also assist with translating raw data into a meaningful, user friendly legislative annual report.
How does it get done?
The data analyst will assist in transforming healthcare data into meaningful insights to guide regulatory oversight and policy development for the Prescription Drug Price Transparency program. This role is responsible for supporting the collection, organization, and analysis of complex data sets from pharmacy benefit managers, insurers, and other stakeholders to help monitor compliance and evaluate trends in prescription drug pricing and utilization.
This position will play a hands-on role in shaping how data is used to detect irregularities, assess market behaviors, and identify opportunities for improved regulation of licensed and registered entities. They will help build and maintain tools, dashboards, and reports that convert large volumes of regulatory and claims related data into accessible and actionable formats for internal and external use.
The position will support reporting needs - from building visualizations for agency leadership and policymakers to contributing data-driven content for legislative reports. A key aspect of this role involves ensuring data integrity through quality assurance protocols as well as assisting in the refinement processes that support ongoing data submission, analysis, and program evaluation.
In addition to technical work the analyst will contribute to strategic efforts to enhance transparency efficacy and collaboration this includes recommending improvements to data workflows offering input on cross program initiatives and staying informed on best practices and health data governance analytics and confidentiality standards.

Minimum Qualification
High School diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience directly related to the position in research, statistics, computer science, data analysis, accounting, auditing, finance, economics, business, public administration, budgeting, management, and/or systems analysis or related professional certification as determined by the hiring agency. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver’s license, a current defensive driving course certification from the State of New Mexico or must pass Defensive Driving Course Certificate within six months of the date of hire as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required.
