In 1981, Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) established Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) to meet the growing demand for management education. In 2003, NMIMS was declared a deemed to be university under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956. The Vision of the University is to be a globally admired University by 2030. The Mission of NMIMS is to emerge as a Centre of Excellence, best in class in India and Asia and yearning to be the best in the world by 2030. With the legacy of 40 years, NMIMS has grown to being not only one of the top-10 B-schools in India but also emerged as a multi-disciplinary, multi-campus University at Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Indore, Shirpur, Dhule, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chandigarh and seventeen constituent schools that include Management, Family Business, Engineering, Pharmacy, Architecture, Commerce, Economics, Law, Science, Liberal Arts, Design, Performing Arts, Mathematical Science, Agricultural Science, Hospitality Management, Branding & Advertising and Distance Learning. The School of Law (SOL) curriculum is designed to provide the legal industry with young lawyers in the corporates as well as in the judiciary. The curriculum as currently envisaged, offers students a choice of specializations in corporate and Litigation roles in the 3rdyear of their program. With the phenomenal growth in the law field today, there is a grave need of legal advisors, jurists and efficient lawyers in the country. Every institution needs to have a legal aid cell as there are many new problems which have been raised; and to resolve them, we need advance interpreters who would be able to interpret the coded laws in a new way. There is a need in the country to implement new laws and create awareness among the people with respect to the contemporary legal solutions. This requires multifaceted skill sets backed up by a rigorously honed knowledge base as well as one needs to be updated as law demands upgradation. The LL.B. program has been tailor made to fill in this need through a practical approach towards the syllabus, guided by the faculty from legal industry itself. Innovative methods of teaching consisting of long classroom debates about current issues, presentations, play/skits, court visitation and many more methods which are used to make the classroom experience an edifying one. Legum Baccalaureus or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) is branched with two courses BA.LL.B., BBA.LL.B. Highlights of the program The program helps the students to enhance their debating skills and give students an idea of how to present oneself in the courtroom. Knowledge is imparted by using an innovative approach towards lectures giving, on the job experience through internship and complement class room teaching by organizing guest lectures and practical demonstrations relevant to gaining an elevated understanding of the subject in relation to its practical environment.

Responsibilities

The Associate Dean will be responsible for running the School of Law programs, including formulating strategies, curriculum design and development, monitoring teaching-learning processes, academic coordination, placement support, and industry-institute collaboration. This role requires strong academic and administrative skills with a vision for the new school.
