Position Description
Working Title: Associate Dean
Department Name: University Library
Division: Academic Affairs
Classification Title: Administrator III
MPP employees serve at the pleasure of the campus President. MPPs do not serve a probationary period and never receive permanent status.
Position Salary Range: $9,487 - $14,231 per month
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $12,300 - $12,425 per month. The maximum budget for this position is $12,425.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: Eight (8) years professional experience in an academic or research library. Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible management and supervisory experience. A sustained record of professional and scholarly activity to qualify for appointment at the level of Librarian with tenure. Record of effective supervisory and administrative management experience in a higher education library or research setting, with a strong service and inclusive orientation. Experience with successfully developing, managing, and completing large, complex projects and programs in a library or similar environment.
  • Education: Master’s degree in Library Science, Information Science or relevant professional discipline from a program accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or equivalent if outside the United States.
  • Required documents: cover letter/application letter, curriculum vitae, brief statement (of two pages) of administrative philosophy and experience in leadership roles related to library services in an academic setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Sound grasp of key and current issues and trends in academic libraries, including but not limited to digital scholarship, information literacy, emerging technologies for teaching and learning, collection development and management, high impact learning practices, open access and education, artificial intelligence uses, and assessment of learning and services for continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, analytical skills, creative and innovative problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to service excellence.
  • Demonstrated skill in collaborating with individuals and groups within and beyond the Library, across the campus, and in the broader regional and library professional communities.
  • Strong management and supervision skills, with the ability to motivate, develop, and mentor others.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to be proactive, flexible, and collaborative as a leader and senior administrator to accomplish strategic goals and priorities.
  • Experience managing academic personnel.
  • Experience implementing and sustaining collaborative teams, including the ability to motivate, develop, and mentor others, and to welcome and support diverse ideas, cultures, and experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and administrators to set and accomplish strategic goals and to cultivate a collegial environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to data-driven decision making and fostering a culture of inquiry and assessment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Dean in the overall administration of the University Library.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the following library departments: User Services and Collections, Access, and Processing Services (CAPS).
  • As a member of the Library’s management team, participate in problem resolution, decision-making, policy development, and planning for library units.
  • Build strong relationships with campus partners whose work intersects with the Library to participate collaboratively in cross-institutional initiatives that effectively align and complement the work of the unit.
  • Implement and manage complex library projects involving multiple stakeholders in cross-functional teams to facilitate effective and coordinated use of limited resources and to ensure successful completion of project objectives.
