Position Summary:
The Associate Director of the Institute for Training and Development (ITD) provides leadership, oversight, and operational management for the agency’s internal and external training programs. This role supervises training staff, develops and delivers high-quality professional development, and ensures compliance with agency standards, funder requirements, and continuing education accreditation. The Associate Director partners with the Director of ITD to align all training initiatives with organizational goals, enhance workforce development, and strengthen Talbert House’s reputation as a leader in behavioral health and community corrections training.
Position Description:

Leadership and Supervision

  • Supervise and support training specialists, senior specialists, and administrative staff (1–4 employees).
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching, and ensure professional development opportunities for staff.
  • Coordinate team assignments and maintain smooth day-to-day operations of the ITD department.
  • Training Program Development and Delivery
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate live, virtual, and asynchronous trainings in behavioral health, community corrections, prevention, leadership, and other areas of focus.
  • Facilitate courses using adult learning principles to maximize engagement and skill transfer.
  • Create and maintain high-quality training content that is evidence-based and culturally responsive.
  • Oversee the development of curricula for agency supervisors and external training contracts.
  • Compliance and Quality Assurance
  • Maintain documentation to meet the standards of continuing education accreditation boards (e.g., Social Work, Counseling, and Addiction boards).
  • Track and utilize participant feedback, outcome data, and evaluation results to improve program quality.
  • Strategic and Operational Management
  • Assist the Director in strategic planning, budgeting, and goal setting for ITD.
  • Oversee scheduling, logistics, and records management for all training activities, including CEUs and certificates.
  • Research trends and incorporate innovative practices in adult learning and instructional technology.
  • Partnerships and Outreach
  • Build and maintain relationships with internal departments, community partners, and external agencies.
  • Respond to custom training requests and support external contracts and community education initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong facilitation/presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and flexibility
  • Work independently and create relationships with area non-profits
  • Knowledge of integrating technology into training strategies, video, mobile learning, and blended learning approaches
  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Outlook, Word and other relevant software
  • Ability to manage time effectively and efficiently
  • Knowledge of classroom-based training delivery and adult learning principles
  • Travel locally in personal vehicle
  • Knowledge of behavioral health, community corrections, and evidence-based practices preferred.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family Therapy and:
  • Valid LISW, PCC or LMFT and four years’ experience in direct clinical practice
  • 2+ years of experience in training and/or development, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role preferred
  • Valid driver’s license and current auto insurance
