JOB SUMMARY

As an Associate Director for our Laboratory Animal Medicine & Surgery team at the Senneville location, you will be responsible for providing professional veterinary services and overseeing the department. You will also act as a resource for all procedures involving animals and their environment, identifying deficiencies and recommending improvements, providing guidance to assure regulatory compliance and adherence to ethical standards, and coordinating responses to regulatory bodies and client audits.

In this role, primary responsibilities include:

  • Provide professional expertise for guidance on procedures and techniques involving live animals ensuring quality of veterinary care as well as animal care procedures, animals’ environment, housing, husbandry and social needs are met and comply with internal policies and procedures, and meet requirements as demanded by regulatory agencies;
  • Ensure that all animal care and use procedures performed at the site are maintained at levels necessary to perform high quality studies that are in compliance with internal policies and external standards such as AAALAC International and the Canadian Council on animal Care (CCAC);
  • Interact with clients;
  • May be responsible for the day to day management of staff within the department including timesheet review, workload management, absences, vacations, disciplinary actions, and for the salary administration of staff;
  • Support the adoption of efficient and innovative technologies and methodologies for animal care and use and site operations;
  • Provide optimal medical care as per accepted veterinary practices, and to remain current with diagnostic procedures/tests and medical treatments, as applicable to laboratory animal medicine.

KEY ELEMENTS

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree or equivalent;
  • Must have a valid and up-to-date OMVQ licence;
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a Clinical Veterinarian, with a focus on laboratory animal medicine and animal care;
  • At least 2 years’ experience managing direct reports;
  • Bilingualism English & French is mandatory;
  • Working experience with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) is an asset;
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills;
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
  • Ability to coach personnel.
Responsibilities

ROLE SPECIFIC INFORMATION:

  • Location: 22022 route Transcanadienne, Senneville, QC, H9X 1C1;

  • Transportation: We offer a free shuttle service from the Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue train station and John Abbott College to the Senneville site. Free parking. Electric vehicle charging station;

  • Annual bonus based on performance;
  • Schedule: Monday to Friday daytime. You will have to do a weekend rotation (on-call) once every 6 weeks;
  • Permanent position as of the hiring, full-time 37.5hrs per week.
