This is a key role of the newly established Asia Repertoire team, focusing overseeing the physical and sync business all SMEC content. As the Associate Director, Physical Sales & Sync you will be responsible for driving revenue through physical product sales (CDs, vinyl, merchandise) and synchronization licensing opportunities. You will focus on maximizing catalogue and frontline product sales, building strong retail partnerships, and securing sync placements in media, advertising, and entertainment. This role drives direct-to-consumer strategies for Sony Music China, focusing on physical product sales (CDs, vinyl, merchandise) and synchronization licensing. Success means building strong retail and e-commerce presence, creating compelling consumer experiences, and unlocking sync opportunities across advertising, film, TV, and gaming. This role focuses on maximizing catalogue and frontline product sales, building strong retail partnerships, and securing sync placements in media, advertising, and entertainment. The ideal candidate will spearhead our efforts across three high-growth areas: fan engagement platforms, direct-to-consumer (D2C) commerce, and B2B distribution. What you'll do: Physical Sales & Production Develop and execute strategies to grow physical product sales across retail and e-commerce channels. Manage relationships with distributors, retailers, and key partners to ensure product availability and visibility. Create and manage the end-to-end physical production cycle, including: Product design and packaging Vendor selection and negotiation Production scheduling and quality control Inventory management and logistics coordination Plan and oversee special editions, box sets, and anniversary releases to boost catalogue sales. Forecast demand and manage inventory to optimize supply chain efficiency. Sync Licensing Identify and pursue synchronization opportunities for music in TV, film, advertising, gaming, and digital media. Negotiate sync deals and ensure compliance with licensing terms. Collaborate with A&R and marketing teams to pitch suitable tracks for sync placements. Maintain strong relationships with music supervisors, agencies, and production companies. Reporting & Analysis Track sales performance and sync revenue against targets. Provide regular reports and insights to management on market trends and opportunities. Improving the current workflow for physical product release. D2C Strategy & Execution Develop and implement end-to-end D2C campaigns for physical products and exclusive bundles via SME-owned platforms and partner stores. E-Commerce & Retail Partnerships Manage relationships with online marketplaces (Tmall, JD.com) and offline retail partners; negotiate visibility and promotional opportunities. Campaign Analytics Track sales performance, consumer engagement, and ROI; provide actionable insights to optimize future campaigns. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work closely with A&R, Marketing, Finance, and Legal to ensure smooth execution and alignment with business goals Working with SMEC labels and partners, maximize our output for physical releases in China, developing more products Communication and execution for sync deals. Developing more opportunities for the sync usage of our content across SMEC. Support Asia Repertoire’s marketing team’s marketing and promotions campaigns. Who you are: Minimum 10 years of experience in music and entertaining business with similar role focus on product. Strong knowledge of China’s retail and e-commerce landscape; familiarity with music rights and licensing processes. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Good communication and interpersonal skills Able to work independently and as part of a team Detail-oriented with a proactive work attitude. Proficiency in Mandarin and English (both written and spoken) Skills Negotiation & Relationship Management: Ability to secure deals and maintain strong partnerships. Commercial Acumen: Understanding of pricing, margins, and revenue optimization. Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret sales data and market trends. Project Management: Strong organizational skills for managing multiple releases and deals. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external stakeholders. KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) Physical Sales Growth: % increase in physical product revenue. Sync Revenue: Total revenue generated from sync deals. Deal Volume: Number of sync placements secured per quarter. Retail Coverage: Number of retail and e-commerce partnerships established.
