Mō te Tūranga | About the Role Our Specialised Finance team originates, structures, and executes project finance solutions across a wide range of sectors including energy, utilities, property and public infrastructure. The New Zealand Government's infrastructure investment initiatives, and aim to be net zero by 2050 is driving significant investment across the public and private sectors, resulting in a strong pipeline of transactions. We currently have an exceptional opportunity in Auckland for an Associate Director to lead and provide support on all aspects of the transactions (i.e. origination, structuring, and execution) and have oversight of other transaction elements undertaken by the team, as well as managing a portfolio of existing assets. What are the key day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? Transaction structuring and execution: Working with colleagues across BNZ and NAB (e.g. capital markets, sustainable finance, risk) as well as external stakeholders (e.g. customers, lawyers, advisors) to develop and document bespoke financial solutions. Market engagement: Maintaining and growing your external networks to keep up to date with market knowledge and identify prospect transactions. Risk management: Managing and facilitating credit processes. Leadership and training: Develop, coach and mentor associates within the team, challenging and inspiring them to develop their capabilities. Portfolio management: Lead the management and monitoring of a portfolio of existing assets. What attributes will this person have in order to be successful? We are looking for someone who has great problem-solving skills and excellent attention to detail, is an effective communicator with proven coaching and development capabilities and the ability to inspire others. You will be a highly regarded banking, legal or advisory professional, who has a sound understanding of financial structuring (e.g. commercial, legal, financial, accounting and tax). Previous experience in the structuring and negotiation of project finance and/or complex financial transactions with an excellent understanding of risk allocation and documentation, would set you up for success in this role, along with a deep understanding of the market and a strong professional network, with the ability to build and develop solid relationships. What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? You are joining the team at an incredibly exciting time, the New Zealand Government's infrastructure investment initiatives (e.g. Public Private Partnerships), and net zero targets, are driving investment across a range of sectors. Renewable energy and green fuels will be a major focus for the role, supporting the electrification and decarbonisation of New Zealand industry and electricity markets. In addition, innovative solutions will need to be developed to meet New Zealand's infrastructure deficit. What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity? No two deals look the same.
