JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Director plays a critical leadership role within the HR structure. This position provides direct supervision and coaching to the HR Business Partners (HRBPs), HR Generalists (HRGs), and/or HR Coordinators (HRCs) and leads key initiatives focused on advancing a collaborative, data-informed, and service-oriented HR function. The Associate Director also serves as a strategic HRBP to one or more divisions of the university and ensures alignment between HR practices and institutional goals.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Human Resources, Business, or related field.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

Seven (7) years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead capacity.

ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP certification

PREFERRED EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in HR or related field

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Experience in higher education and/or corporate HR

ABILITIES

Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one time meeting assigned deadlines

Responsibilities

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Directly manages the HRBP team and supports their development and alignment to university/divisional strategies.
  2. Acts as escalation point for complex HR issues across the HRBP team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Leads, mentors, and manages a team of HRBPs, HRGs, and/or HRCs; oversees daily operations and supports professional growth and development.
  2. Partners with university leadership and HR leadership to advance institutional goals through strategic HR initiatives.
  3. Collaborates cross-functionally to ensure the successful delivery of HR services, including employee relations, organizational design, performance management, and succession planning.
  4. Directly supports one or more divisions as the primary HR Business Partner, advising senior leaders and driving workforce strategy.
  5. Serves as HRBP for an assigned division, providing strategic counsel and supporting leadership with workforce planning, talent development, employee relations and employee engagement.
  6. Analyzes and shares HR metrics with divisional and department leadership to guide data-informed decision-making.
  7. Supports process improvement efforts and the development of standardized toolkits, guidance materials, and training.
  8. Participates in the development and execution of change management strategies to support HR and institutional initiatives.
  9. Serves as a liaison between university departments and HR functional areas to ensure seamless support and alignment.
  10. Collaborates with peer Associate Director (HRBP or HRC and HRG) and Employee Relations Manager to ensure seamless alignment across the HR Consulting team.
