Description Position: Associate Editor Manager: Managing Editor, Communications Department: Communications Status: Non-Exempt Date Updated: January 2026 F/T Monday - Friday The Associate Editor in the Communications and Marketing department at the Historic New Orleans Collection is responsible for supporting the editing and production of all HNOC collateral for external audiences. The Associate Editor produces and refines print and digital content across multiple channels, ensuring that it is clear, engaging, accurate, and suitable for the target audience. This position reports to the Communications Managing Editor. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Project manages production of the Historic New Orleans Collection Quarterly, editing content, assembling graphic assets, liaising with the designer, and seeing the magazine through all stages of its production. Contributes to HNOC’s two blogs, First Draft and Collection Highlights—working with Managing Editor, helps develop story ideas, write and edit copy, and strategize with Web Content Developer and Digital Communications Strategist on how best to promote stories. Writes and edits other printed and digital communications, including marketing collateral, visitation materials, branded merchandise, web copy, social media posts, email newsletters, and signage. Reviews for house style, grammar, punctuation, and brand voice. Assists in tracking online engagement. Maintains samples of printed materials. Other administrative duties as assigned. Requirements Job Qualifications: Below are the minimum requirements necessary for this position. Bachelor’s degree in English, history, journalism, American studies, or related field. Minimum of three years’ experience in editing and publishing (print or digital). Exceptional skill in editing, writing, and researching. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, mastery of Chicago Manual of Style, and experience in proofreading for production. Ability to work as part of a team and collaborate with others as well as demonstrated ability to work independently. Ability to manage complex projects from start to finish. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to consistently meet deadlines. Exceptional attention to detail. Preferred Job Qualifications: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Teams, and SharePoint.
