Description

The Associate Engineer, Mechanical reports to the Engineering Superintendent, Mechanical, and is the technical steward for fixed equipment, piping, heat exchangers, tanks, and mechanical systems and is accountable for supporting system maintenance and improving these systems including all associated documentation. The employee will provide discipline expertise to support staff, engineering design, maintenance, and production groups.
This is a Non-DOT position.

KNOWLEDGE:

Understands LNG transportation, storage, and processing, including health, safety, maintenance, operations, governmental regulations and associated codes and standards. Has knowledge of fixed mechanical equipment and mechanical systems, national codes, standards and regulations, and their implementation in operating facilities.

SKILLS:

  • Computer savvy including Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Access, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Leadership and administrative abilities are required.
  • An acute sensitivity to safety issues in a hazardous environment.
  • Good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization and with individuals and groups from different disciplines, industries and governmental agencies.
  • Able to work with a culturally diverse group of technical individuals whose skills cover the range required to engineer, operate and maintain the LNG terminal and Liquefaction production facilities.
  • Possess the personality and ability to relate to and to establish a mutually respectful relationship with 1) management, 2) peers and 3) the various facility level workers (Plant Manager, plant supervision and plant workers) whom are all responsible for ensuring good operations.
  • Organized, planning skills, able to manage multiple activities and programs in timely fashion and with a high degree of accuracy, able to meet work deadlines.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education, Training and Certifications : Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering. A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
Experience : Zero to two (0-2) years of experience in an industrial setting in engineering or operations. Recent experience with LNG is preferred, however, petrochemical, NGL, cryogenic natural gas processing, or other hydrocarbon processing experience may be acceptable.

Responsibilities
  • Serves as the mechanical systems administrator and provides daily mechanical systems (pressure vessels, piping, heat exchangers, valves) support to the plant to keep the plant systems operational.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on mechanical system engineering issues (not limited to risk engineering, system integrity, and applicability to specifications, philosophies and standards) and mentor the support groups (Mechanical Maintenance Supervision and Technicians). Understand and interpret codes, standards, and regulations that are equipment related.
  • Develops working relationships with other department personnel within the plant in order to seek out opportunities that will add value to each job completed.
  • Reinforces awareness of safety and environmental incidents through frequent job observations by talking to personnel working in the plant. Responsible for developing or collecting information in support of permit requirements as assigned.
  • Applies the complete use of standard engineering knowledge, skills, and practices to perform a variety of assignments.
  • Uses established technologies, theories, concepts and techniques and begins to acquire knowledge of new/cutting edge methods/technologies.
  • May serve as a project manager for an ongoing process or short-term engineering/construction project(s).
  • With general guidance, responsible for working on basic to moderately complex engineering assignments/projects.
  • Regularly exercises independent judgment on matters of technical significance, within defined procedures to determine appropriate actions/approaches.
  • Makes decisions regarding own work methods, occasionally in ambiguous situations. Decisions are often guided by precedent, previous experience and engineering/technical guidelines and compliance requirements.
