PORTS AND MARITIME AT BECA

Beca has been supporting and providing maritime consultancy services to government, Industrial and Defence clients for over 80 years – and over this time Ports and Maritime team have developed a keen understanding of the types of solutions that meet the demands of the users and key stakeholders.
We have extensive experience of working in the marine environment and fully understand the challenges faced when constructing and maintaining maritime infrastructure. Our multidisciplinary teams deliver integrated solution to ports and maritime projects, drawing upon experience from projects both internationally and across Australia. Services that include all stages of a project - from the early planning, studies and concept work, through to detailed design and on to construction assistance and management.

THE OPPORTUNITY

At Beca we are seeing strong growth in our Ports and Maritime business with increasing demand in Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands. To help accelerate this growth we are seeking an Associate or Senior Engineer – Ports and Maritime, preferably based in Melbourne, but we will also look at Sydney, Brisbane or Adelaide for the right person.

We specialise in all types of marine facilities from container terminals, bulk facilities and shipyards to coastal protection, beach nourishment and breakwaters and continue to be at the forefront of innovation by developing the infrastructure required for the safe, efficient, sustainable and cost-effective operation of tomorrow’s ports.
Working on a wide variety of maritime engineering projects across Australia, New Zealand, Southeast Asia and the Pacific Islands - you’ll be part of a team of highly skilled professionals who will support you as you further advance your technical and design management skills.

Responsibilities
  • Be a key part of our dynamic and innovative team.
  • Lead technical delivery as Design Manager and/or Work Package Manager to create safe and robust technical solutions.
  • Use your experience of maritime industry best practice to deliver both domestic (Australian) and international port & maritime facilities and/or coastal defences.
  • Be familiar with Australian and other local standards applicable to the design development of marine structures.
  • Be familiar with international best practice and international codes and standards applicable to the maritime sector, including British Standards, PIANC, OCIMF, USACE.
  • Be competent in carrying out structural design calculations both by hand and using the latest computer software packages available in the industry.
  • Be conversant in managing and mentoring junior team members to deliver projects on time and within agreed budgets.
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills to be able collaborate with our clients and prepare deliverables
