This position requires solid oral communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills are required for this position. Writing and editing skills are essential. Strong organizational skills are required. A high tolerance for pressure, along with the ability to handle conflicting responsibilities is essential. The ability to relate to staff at all levels in a positive professional manner is essential. An ability to relate effectively to top management, branch management and other executive staff is necessary. The ability to work collaboratively through inspiration, persuasion, and determination is key to this position’s success. The ability to meet deadlines is a must. Computer skills are required, including basic desktop productivity software (Microsoft Office). Experience in database management is required. Knowledge of the YMCA, its purposes, programs and philosophy is helpful but not required for application.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Availability to work some nights and weekends on an as needed basis.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in human services, communications, or related field. Masters preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management experience in leading at-risk youth programming.
  • Minimum of 6 years-experience in working with at-risk youth and families.
  • Familiarity with the philosophies of Trauma Informed Care and Positive Youth Development
  • Strong multi-tasking, organization and time management skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Outlook; Microsoft Office) and knowledge of web-based applications.
  • Valid Kentucky/Indiana driver’s license.

The Associate Executive Director at Safe Place Services is responsible for leading branch efforts toward engaging our most vulnerable community members, while ensuring their safety and well-being. As a key member of the senior leadership team at Safe Place Services, the Associate Executive Director, under the supervision of the Executive Director, is responsible for the oversight of all staffing personnel, operations, and expenditure budgets associated with our 12-17 year old emergency youth shelter-Shelter House. Additionally, the Associate Executive Director is responsible for all campus and facility operations by providing direct oversight to the Maintenance-Food Service-Facility department.
Service delivery includes the care and support of approximately 400 youth and their families in Shelter House and facility operations oversight that serve another 150 youth, young adults, and families. The position plays a key role in branch initiatives related to Safe Crisis Management, Trauma Informed Care, and Positive Youth Development. Incumbent must have strong leadership abilities, be highly organized and possess quality character for supporting and coaching staff members, youth residents, program participants, parents/care-givers, and volunteers. Ensuring the safety and well-being of all youth, young-adults, and families served, and relationship building with staff and volunteers are top priorities.

Responsibilities
  • Champions the program’s mission and core values and challenges young people to accept and demonstrate core values of honesty, respect, responsibility and caring.
  • Overall personnel support provided to a Shelter House team of (9) full-time staff and (17) part-time staff; and Maintenance and Facility Team of (1) Full-time staff and (4) Part-time staff.
  • Direct supervision responsibilities include (4) full-time staff: (1) Facility and Operations Director and (3) Assistant Shelter House managers.
  • Oversees the development, coordination, and execution of all Shelter House program activities to promote an environment for youth that meets all their basic needs; and helps to achieve goals associated with life-skill development, crisis stabilization, and family re-unification.
  • Ensures the delivery of all Shelter House programming and services that fully support goals and objectives set forth the Federal Runaway and Homeless Youth Act (RHY) and the RHY-Basic Center federal grant.
  • Ensures Shelter House remains in full compliance with all licensing regulations and standards set forth by the Kentucky Office of Inspector General.
  • Ensures Shelter House will meet all standards required to become nationally accredited by April of 2026.
  • Ensures all staff training requirements are fulfilled and develops professional training plans with all key staff under their supervision
  • Along with the Quality Assurance Director, co-manages and supports the KY Justice Cabinet-Alternative to Detention contract.
  • Ensures accurate metrics indicating progress toward logic model goals are tracked and reported monthly and evaluated quarterly.
  • Along with the Executive Director. co-leads the Quality Assurance Team which evaluates a wide-range of programmatic quality assurance indicators for the entire Safe Place Services branch. Provides quarterly reports of progress and challenges.
  • Along with the Executive Director, co-leads and directs YMCA Safe Place Services Advisory Board. Assist with board member recruitment and training; developing strategic priorities, creating board calendars and meeting agendas, and ensuring board participation in the Annual Campaign.
  • Excellent attention to detail is mandatory. Reporting on quality assurance and programmatic outcomes are a vital part of this leadership position.
  • Skilled in utilizing and training effective crisis intervention strategies that are grounded in Trauma Informed Care and Least Restrictive Alternative philosophies
  • Develops and implements policies, procedures, and curriculum necessary to achieve the programmatic goals and objectives. Utilizes trauma informed methodology and models a person of integrity.
  • As a senior member of the Safe Place leadership team, provides 24 on-call response and support as needed on a rotating basis with other senior level staff members.
  • Engages with other YMCA senior staff across the Greater Louisville Association to further the mission of the Y through collaborative partnerships and staff development.
  • Maintains a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Demonstrates and challenges others to accept the values of honesty, respect, responsibility & caring.
