Carolina Ingredients is currently looking for a Research & Development Associate Food Scientist in the food manufacturing/distribution industry who is passionate about creating value, building partnerships, finding innovative solutions and who has a “get it done right” attitude.
Job Summary:
The R&D Associate Food Scientist position is responsible for assisting the R&D department in the development of new productions, duplication of existing blends, adaptation of new and existing formulas to meet customer requirements, and innovation with flavor profiles.

KNOWLEDGE:

· 6 months - 1 year of R&D work experience
o Processing knowledge
o Understanding of flavors and ingredients
· Technical knowledge of food ingredients.
· Working knowledge of R&D processes and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

· Assist in the day-to-day completion of samples for project assigned by mentor and/or requests submitted by Sales.
· Developing new and innovative seasoning blends from concept to scale up completion.
· Create formulas in a timely manner according to customer requirements, specified restrictions, and other project specifications.
· Formulate and blend formulas accurately by weighing out all ingredients on a gram scale.
· Create blending procedures for production formulas with mixing instructions, packaging information, and any relevant information for the production team.
· Demonstrate an ability develop expertise in key application area of dry blends – seasonings, gravies, marinades, rubs, functional meat/protein blends, etc.
· Critically evaluate samples and initiate formulation adjustments as needed.
· Manage multiple projects and show technical competence in the completion of assigned projects without supervision.
· Foster professional relationships with customers to ensure customer relationship building for the future.
· Build partnerships with ingredient suppliers and request ingredients for samples as needed.
· Participate in the development of future target markets, providing technical insight as needed.
· Develop a thorough knowledge of core customer’s strategies, brands, and products.
· Precise duplication of customer’s control seasoning blends while following their restrictions.
· Make finished product samples as needed.
· Conduct function and/or sensory evaluation on new ingredients, flavors, and finished products.
· Monitor new product “Red Blends” for accuracy and proper execution.
· Enter new ingredient samples into “L Number” log and obtain technical documentation and price information for those samples as needed.
· Effectively communicate updates on project developments/matches, sample production, and other necessary information.
· Attend customer visits and presentations as required by Director of R&D and Sales.
· Manage and maintain food safety through the facility, within the scope of job responsibilities.
· Assist R&D in special projects or other duties as assigned.
