Position Summary
ECU Health is seeking an attorney with exceptional legal qualifications and a commitment to our mission to improve the health and well-being of eastern North Carolina to join our in-house legal department as Associate General Counsel. The successful candidate must possess strong analytical ability and oral and written communications skills; be willing to collaborate with others; exercise sound judgement and apply a practical approach to solving a wide range of legal and policy issues; and be able to demonstrate leadership ability and be able to self-direct.
The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for providing legal counsel and guidance on a broad range of matters, which may include:
Providing advice and counsel on matters relating to labor and employment law, including compensation and benefits, EEO, FMLA, ADA, DOL, and state-specific regulations.
Assisting with internal investigations, assisting with responses to investigations and inquires from external regulatory and/or accreditation agencies, such as OSHA, DHHS, KOL, EEO, and the Joint Commission, advising on subpoenas, handling workers’ compensation claims and administrative hearings, and consulting with outside counsel on litigation matters.
Representing clients in negotiations, mediations, and other legal proceedings.
Providing legal support for HR, compensation, and benefits for matters throughout the employee lifecycle, including matters related to new hires and departing individuals.
Drafting workplace policies.
Drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, separation agreements, and other employment-related documents.
Maintaining awareness of laws and regulations and staying current with changes, developments, and practices that may affect health care systems.
Preparing and delivering education programs on employment law topics.
Conducting legal research and analysis to support clients needs.
Ability to provide clear, actionable advice to employers on compliance, risk mitigation, and best practices.
Coordinating activities and collaborating with other members of the Legal Department, fostering a positive, team-oriented working environment.
