Xavier University is seeking applications for the position of Associate Government Relations Director. The Associate Government Relations Director directs Xavier’s Pre-Law academic program while working closely with the Government Relations Director to provide monitoring and analysis on local, state, and federal policy related to higher education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, IN ADDITION TO ALL OF THE ABOVE:

  • Three years or more administrative experience
  • Experience with event planning.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • Experience as practicing attorney
  • Experience or field of academic study related to content PPP curriculum
  • 3-5 years of experience building relationships in local, state, and/or national government
  • Experience dealing with highly varied, complex, and non-recuring problems that require novel and creative problem-solving approaches.
  • Experience making decisions that have broad implications.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. Must be able to provide cogent summaries of complex political and policy issues, at times on short notice, to inform decisions of the university’s leaders, including the President.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects.
  • Ability to do intermediate to advanced work with spreadsheets, presentations, and creation of documents
Responsibilities
  • Provide Strategic Direction and Experiential Support for Xavier’s Pre-Law Minor Program including advising and supporting students, promoting program growth; coordinating high impact experiential pre-law opportunities; in-class instruction for Introduction to Law; coordinating LSAT preparation course; convening pre-law advisory group; assisting in curriculum assessment and updates; and providing budgetary oversight of the program.
  • Analysis, Monitoring and Engagement in Government Relations including monitoring local, state, and national policies related to higher education; providing oral and written summaries and analysis of policy, legislation, and funding issues & opportunities; and assisting the university in development of relationships and engagements across the city, state, and nation.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction for applied and experiential elements of the Honors Philosophy, Politics, and the Public (PPP) Program including serving as program faculty to support the second-year block of high impact experiential courses; assisting with logistics and participation in the PPP Washington D.C. trip; and coordinating the PPP Summer Externship funding process, providing support as needed for the State Politics Internship program.
