This is a 12-month Limited Term position. The Limited Term may be extended for up to 24 months and/or the position may become permanent.

This position is located in the Oakland District Office of the Veterans Services Division in Alameda County and is responsible for representing veterans, their dependents and survivors, by filing claims and decision review requests, evaluating and developing case files, and following up on pending claims for benefits administered by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (USDVA).

STATEMENT OF QUALIFICATIONS

A Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required. Please note that resumes, cover letters, and/or any other documents do not take the place of the SOQ. Applicants who fail to submit a complete SOQ as instructed and/or fail to submit all of the required documents may be eliminated from the selection process.

The SOQ serves as documentation of your ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing. In your SOQ, describe your experience, knowledge, and competencies as they relate to each of the items listed below. The items must be addressed and numbered in the same order as listed; do not consolidate responses. The SOQ must be no more than two pages typed, using 12-point Arial font on standard letter-sized paper with one (1)-inch margins.

  • Can you explain any experience you have with working in a public contact setting which may include communication with clients in person, on the telephone and in writing?
  • What experience do you have with analyzing information to include applying statutes and regulations in order to determine if client is eligible or entitled to benefits?
  • Can you describe your experience working with multiple computer systems and programs, including web-based applications to submit electronic claims, manage cases, and track productivity?
  • What knowledge or experience (any capacity) do you have working with multiple organizations such as Federal, State, local and/or non-governmental agencies?
