We are seeking an Associate II, In Vivo to join Aspect’s multidisciplinary Preclinical R&D team. Reporting to the Director, In Vivo Sciences, you will be responsible for performing surgical procedures and ensuring the highest level of animal care. This role offers the exceptional chance to broaden your technical expertise in animal surgery while contributing to the advancement of our pioneering bioprinted therapeutic programs.

Qualifications

  • Education + Experience: BSc or MSc in experimental medicine or a related discipline with 2-3 years of proven experience in conducting in vivo.
  • Animal Standards Knowledge: A working knowledge of animal-related standards, CCAC guidelines, and federal, provincial, and local requirements is preferred.
  • Required Certification: Completion of UBC animal care training and lab rodent courses
Responsibilities
  • Perform surgical procedures associated with our preclinical programs.
  • Support animal handling, including basic manipulation, restraint, blood sampling, dosing, and injections.
  • Execute on study-related procedures to ensure proper animal care practices.
  • Contribute to the design of in vivo studies aimed at assessing bioprinted therapeutic performance.
  • Assist in defining appropriate surgical strategy, sample size, control and experimental study arms, and relevant endpoints.
  • Collaborate in the development of study and animal use protocols with CROs and academic collaborators, including monitoring studies, providing feedback on interim and final reports.
  • Aid in processing, coding, storage, and transportation of bioprinted tissue sample batches for preclinical in vivo studies, ensuring quality control and assurance measures are in place.
  • Secure and analyze in vivo pharmacology and biomarker study endpoints.
  • Prepare and harvest tissues from animals and liaise with internal and third-party histology teams for analysis of histology and IHC results.
  • Create standard operating procedures, maintain rigorous experimental records, deliver experimental reports, and present results to key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute to scientific publications, conference abstracts, patents, and grant applications.
