EDUCATION

A Bachelor Degree in Industrial Hygiene or similar field, such as Environmental and Occupational Safety or Occupational Hygiene from an accredited institute.

EXPERIENCE

The incumbent must have up to 5 years experience with 2 years of directly related work experience.

CERTIFICATIONS/OTHER REQUIREMENTS AS APPLICABLE

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
  • Ability to speak and write reports in English using both scientifically correct terminology and terms understandable to any level of listener or reader.
  • Desirable to speak and write Arabic.
  • If male, must possess a valid driving license
Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  • Performing comprehensive/baseline industrial hygiene surveys to identify, evaluate, and control workplace health hazards that may adversely affect workers’ health periodically and as needed in all identified hazardous locations per the Occupational Health Hazard Assessment (OHHA) program.
  • Assisting with the testing and certifying of ventilation engineering controls such as biological safety cabinets (BSCs) and fume hoods located in hazardous locations such as laboratories, and laminar flow clean benches located in sensitive areas such as pharmacy admixture rooms.
  • Evaluating HVAC systems that service critical areas such as Central Supply Services (CSS) decontamination rooms and airborne infection isolation (A.I.I.) rooms. This includes, but is not limited to, determining air changes per hour, air pressure status, and filtration efficiency, especially those systems equipped with high efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filtration systems.
  • Evaluating workers’ exposure to chemicals such as formaldehyde gas, xylene, nitrous oxide, and methyl methacrylate. This may include air sampling to ensure that workers are not overexposed.
  • Ensuring all components of the Hazard Communication Program are being met.
  • Ensuring that hazardous waste such as medical infectious, cytotoxic, and chemical waste are disposed of in accordance with applicable laws to protect the health and safety of workers, patients, visitors, and the environment.
  • Monitoring and assessing eyewash stations and shower facilities during Environment of Care inspection rounds and when performing industrial hygiene surveys.

  • Fit testing and training all respirator users, including N95 respirator users, on the use, wear and care of respiratory devices in accordance with the Respiratory Protection policy.
  • Monitoring and assessing mold contamination, including performing media sampling if needed, and investigating for potential causes and make recommendations for remediation and appropriate action.
