Description Chartwell is seeking a junior to midlevel associate to join its Portland/Vancouver based insurance coverage practice. The coverage group handles matter under many different commercial policies for a wide range of claims, including representation of insurers in coverage disputes throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. The role requires exceptional research and drafting skills, along with the ability to collaborate closely with partners and clients in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate demonstrates independence, strong communication, and a commitment to meeting a 1,950-hour annual billable requirement. Primary Job Duties: Evaluation of insurance policies, assessment of risks, and effective communication with clients regarding the legal standards by which an insurance coverage dispute will be measured. Extensive legal research and drafting of coverage opinions, as well as briefs, memos, and pleadings. Represent insurer clients in court and in depositions. Collaborate closely with partners and clients to deliver timely coverage advice. Manage deadlines and assignments with a high level of ownership and independence. Key Competencies: Significant familiarity with insurance policies and coverage determinations, in addition to strong legal research and writing skills, and ideally experience in coverage litigation including depositions. Preferred experience working with CGL, D&O, E&O, EPL, Fiduciary, Professional Liability, and Property policies. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain client relationships. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Active license to practice law in Oregon and/or Washington; additional bar admissions in Idaho or Montana are a plus. Minimum of 2 years of experience in insurer or policyholder coverage practice. Experience with depositions and mediations; extended coverage opinion experience a plus. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Professional demeanor with strong client-relations and communication skills. Must be responsive and organized, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks at the same time.
