Our North Vancouver based boutique law firm is rapidly growing and we urgently need an Associate Lawyer, with both Civil Litigation and Family Law experience. 3-5 yrs litigation exp required. $100K annual base plus generous fee splitting. Many opportunities for mentoring, growth, and advancement. Hybrid - remote, work at home except for client meetings or court appearances. Must have an active LSBC license. LONG-TERM CONTRACT POSITION.
This job is suitable for an associate who is looking to enhance their litigation and client management skills and learn how to gain the skills of building their own client base. We offer great mentorship in client management and litigation skills.

CIVIL LITIGATION: EXPERIENCE IN HANDLING COMPLEX LITIGATION WITH CONFIDENCE INCLUDING CIVIL MATTERS SUCH AS:

  • Corporate/shareholder and partnership disputes
  • Contract disputes
  • Builders’ liens, foreclosures, and insolvencies
  • Debt collection and loan agreements enforcement
  • Real estate and property disputes
  • Matters related to negligence
  • Matters related to defamation
  • Tort claims

FAMILY LAW: EXPERIENCE IN HANDLING COMPLEX FAMILY LAW WITH CONFIDENCE INCLUDING FAMILY LAW MATTERS SUCH AS:

  • Separation or divorce
  • Parenting arrangements
  • Child support
  • Spousal support
  • Division of property
  • Child protection and parental rights
  • Guardianship and adoption
  • Restraining orders and family violence
  • Family disputes
    Don’t have a book of clients? No problem, we’ve got lots of work for you to do and you’ll still be eligible for fee-splitting.
    How our fee-splitting program works: Most law firms only give associate lawyers fee splits on files they bring to the firm. Our fee splitting program includes all the files you work on, whether you brought these files to the firm, or not.
    First, you’re assigned a monthly billing target that’s realistic for an Associate Lawyer with 3-5 years experience.
    Second, if your monthly billable work exceeds your target, you get to participate in our generous fee splitting.
    What you’ll be doing: On a day-to-day basis, you’ll navigate complex civil and family legal issues on behalf of our clients.
    1) You’ll be responsible for advising our clients on their legal rights and obligations as a civil and family law barrister and solicitor.

2) You’ll be responsible for representing both our civil and family law clients in litigation matters. This includes:

  • Representing and guiding our clients through the process of legal proceedings, mediations, and court appearances
  • Conducting legal research and analysis
  • Filing applications
  • Developing trial strategies
  • Drafting legal documents such as contracts and agreements, pleadings, motions and briefs
  • Maintaining strong relationships with opposing counsel
  • Making sure records of case progress and client communications are up to date and accurate
  • Ensuring high standards of client communications and relationship building
  • Leading settlement negotiations

3) You’ll also be required to act as the project manager for the files you work on. This will include performing your own tasks with excellence, as well as assigning appropriate tasks to legal assistants and ensuring the tasks are completed in an accurate and timely manner.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS YOU MUST HAVE:

  • At least 3-5 years of experience post articles.
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree and active LSBC license.
  • Strong Civil Litigation experience.
  • Strong Family Law experience.
