Are you looking for teaching opportunity in neuroscience? Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to teach next Spring term 2026.

The School of Psychological Sciences is looking to recruit a part-time, fixed-term Associate Lecturer to join the teaching team on the Certificate of Higher Education, Foundation Year and BA Programmes for the module:-

  • Understanding Neuroscience, Level 4
  • 22 hours of teaching, January - March 2026
  • Tuesdays 2-4pm or 6-8pm (please indicate preference in your application).

Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully and undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the Understanding Neuroscience module, which is a Level 4 module offered as part of our Certificate of Higher Education, Foundation Year and BA programmes.
This module will provide a foundational understanding of the basic nervous system, brain and neurological structures underlying human psychology, including imaging technologies and research methodologies.

In addition to the criteria specified in the job pack, the minimum requirements for selection are listed below:

  • A degree in Psychology.
  • Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector.
  • A good understanding of the needs of full and part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm.

    Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree/s in a relevant area

  • A teaching qualification.

The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions on the module. Please refer to the person specification for further selection criteria.

Remuneration:
Payment is based on an hourly rate depending on length of continuous service with the College (starting rate £69.68 per hour inclusive of pro-rata London Allowance and holiday pay) for contact hours worked. This hourly rate is based on the starting point of Grade 7 and is inclusive of a ‘Duties Related to Teaching Multiplier’ at 2.5, which covers preparation, teaching, administration, assessment marking and other examining duties in connection with the course.
Contract:
