Are you passionate about Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)? Could you teach a course on the background, theory and techniques that make up this research-based treatment approach?
Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Lecturer to contribute to this short course within Birkbeck’s world-leading School of Psychological Sciences.

As Associate Lecturer you will teach the module:

  • Introduction to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy - level 4,
  • 22 hours of teaching,
  • Tuesday evenings 6-9pm, April-July 2025 Spring Term.

The module offers an introduction to the principles underpinning Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, the techniques and applications, and how the approach is used to aid understanding and treatment of psychological disorders. The role would suit either someone with a psychology or a therapeutic background.
Your role will be to deliver teaching to Birkbeck students, in order to enable them to complete their studies successfully, and to undertake all related course administrative duties as required.
Your main responsibility will be preparation, teaching, administration and assessment of the module, which is a Level 4 module offered as part of our Certificate of Higher Education.

To succeed as Associate Lecturer you will need the following, and please demonstrate competence in your application:

  • A degree in Psychology,
  • Relevant teaching experience, working with adult students within the HE sector,
  • A good understanding of the needs of part-time adult learners and be able to relate well to their individual needs and engage their interest and enthusiasm,
  • Experience of (or willingness to develop) a wide range of teaching and assessment methods,
  • Demonstrably effective communication, interpersonal and presentation skills across a range of relevant contexts,
  • A working knowledge of IT including Word, Excel, e-mail and experience of (or willingness to use) Moodle,
  • Particularly able to work both as part of a team and independently as appropriate.

The successful candidate will be required to teach all sessions on the module.
