ABOUT US

The Development Planning Unit (DPU) is an international centre specialising in academic teaching, practical training, research and consultancy in the field of urban and regional development and planning. It is concerned with promoting sustainable forms of development, understanding rapid urbanisation and encouraging innovation in the policy, planning and management responses to the economic, social and environmental development of cities and regions, especially in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The Development Planning Unit attracts a range of staff members with both academic and professional backgrounds in the field of international development. Teaching, research and advisory work at the DPU includes a significant degree of engagement with practice and field experience, including an international field trip.

ABOUT YOU

We are seeking applicants who is educated to PhD level (or close to completing) in a relevant field in the subject area covered by the MSc DAP programme, that have experience of lecturing and/or providing tutorial support at postgraduate level. Applicants should be able to demonstrate the awareness and experience necessary to work in a multi-cultural group setting.

Responsibilities

The Development Planning Unit, University College London, wishes to appoint a part time Associate Lecturer (Teaching) to teach 9 sessions over the first term on the module Society and Market: Private Agency for Development. The module is a core component of the MSc Development Administration and Planning and explores the theoretical base and implications for development planning of market- and civil society-led approaches to development; contrasting these where applicable to state-oriented approaches. The appointment is 1st October to 30 September 2026 (12 months) at 0.10 FTE. The role will include personal tutoring. The postholder will be expected to first and second mark assignments and will also be expected to be available for office hours as required during term time.
