Buro Happold is recruiting for an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Building Environments team in London.
This role is suited to a candidate from a Buildings background looking for an opportunity to pursue industry leading designs within a vibrant multi-disciplinary practice.
This role will see the successful applicant leading MEP projects, inputting to, and assisting with leading the mechanical team on projects in the London, UK and Middle East, including residential buildings, research facilities, leisure, mixed-use developments, and refurbishments. We are ideally looking for a versatile candidate who wants to play an active role in technical delivery, project management, mentorship/line management, and business development.
You’ll be collaborating with a wider UK MEP team of over 125 Engineers and Technicians and drawing upon the diverse skills and knowledge of other connected disciplines, including sustainability, building physics, fire engineering, facades, lighting, technology, and more. This role will give you a wide breadth of technical exposure and enable you to push the boundaries of sustainable design.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
As a talented building services engineer, it is expected that you would be able to demonstrate
Extensive mechanical design experience in an MEP consultancy, with experience acting as project leader.
Diverse sector experience, ideally with large scale project experience, and a portfolio of international and middle east projects.
Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, able to develop relationships with clients, architects and other team members.
Bachelors or master’s degree in engineering
Professionally registered with a relevant institution; e.g. CIBSE, IMechE, etc.
Although mechanically biased it is expected that you will have a good understanding of other design disciplines.
A Bachelor’s degree BEng/BSc or Master’s degree MEng/MSc in a relevant discipline.

This key role will have a variety of day-to-day responsibilities including:
Contribute to leading the mechanical team and take a project leadership role as required.
Communicating directly with Clients, offering innovative design solutions and managing expectations. Further developing relationships with existing and new clients including contractors, architects and developers.
Preparing technical and financial proposals for new work.
Managing workload of engineers and technicians
Preparing Technical Specifications.
Monitor financial performance of jobs as well as setting up and managing job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure.
