Role Overview:
Genus PLC has an exciting opportunity. We are seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer to join our Research & Development team. In this role, you will play a key part in the hands-on support, troubleshooting, and improvement of our internal fleet of flow cytometers used for research and testing. This role is ideal for a recent graduate or early-career engineer, who will work with and/or under Senior Engineers, and enjoys working at the intersection of mechanical systems, optics, electronics, and software in a fast-paced, collaborative R&D environment. The position is located in our Windsor, WI office. The Associate Mechanical Engineer has primary accountability for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing internal flow cytometry instruments and will also be responsible for mechanical design and testing in support of targeted experiments.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively across functional teams with a strong attention to detail. This candidate will be able to work with calibration equipment to collect engineering data and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly communicate outcomes and results.

You Will:

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair internal flow cytometry instruments, including mechanical components and assemblies, optical alignment, integrated electronic and software systems
  • Perform hands-on integration of prototype components and subsystems into full instruments
  • Support experimental workflows by designing, fabricating, and assembling mechanical fixtures and test setups
  • Perform root cause analysis and collaborate with relevant subject matter experts and communicate findings to identify solutions
  • Use precision calibration tools and measurement apparatus to ensure instruments and prototypes are set up to specifications and requirements for experimental targets
  • Identify and source purchased engineering components to accelerate testing
  • Develop and execute test protocols for targeted experiments as well as component and sub-system level verification
  • Collect, analyze, and report experimental data clearly and accurately to cross-functional teams
  • Maintain documentation for troubleshooting of procedures, design updates, and test results and communicate issues and or changes to relevant parties
  • Assist Technicians and other Engineers with development and troubleshooting
  • Travel between sites as needed
  • Promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations, including identifying and communicating workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

  • Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: (REQUIRED)

  • A University degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • A minimum of xx years of experience in SolidWorks modeling and drawing generation
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior engineering work experience (i.e. internship or co-op) and/or additional experience
  • Experience defining tests, conducting tests, and analyzing and reporting results
  • Experience with Matlab, JMP, Python or Excel for statistical analysis
  • Experience with design of experiments
