The Associate Designer plays a key role in assisting the design team in the creation and development of apparel and accessories for Southern Tide. The Associate Designer will collaborate closely with senior designers and other cross-functional teams to bring creative concepts to life and contribute to the overall design process. The Associate Designer’s responsibilities include research, sketching, CAD creation, fabric selection, and maintaining design documentation.

Crew Position:

  • Contribute to the development of the assigned line from conceptualization to finished product.
  • Create detailed sketches and technical drawings of apparel using hand sketches or CAD software, and write specifications describing factors such as color scheme, fit, aesthetics, construction, and type of material to be used.
  • Support Design team in constructing technical packages for garment development utilizing a product line management system. Create and ensure timely execution of tech/design packages ensuring all level of detail is accurate.
  • Attend fittings and assist by providing feedback on garment fit, construction, and overall design.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, merchandising, production, and marketing, to ensure design requirements are met.
  • Research and analyze market trends, consumer preferences, competitive positions, and emerging technologies to ensure Southern Tide’s assortment meets the consumer and key account needs.
  • Assist in selecting appropriate fabrics, trims, and accessories for each design.
  • Assist in developing design concepts and mood boards based on research findings and brand guidelines to determine color palette and graphics/print.
  • Assist in creating presentation materials for design reviews and buyer meetings and participate in design team meetings.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and manufacturers to address design-related questions and provide clarifications.
  • Develop solid relationships with internal and external cross functional counterparts to assure efficient & clear communication through the entire development process, ensuring the design intent, revisions and aesthetic is communicated.
  • Maintain accurate design records and assist with organization of design department including update design libraries, sample archives, and material references.
  • Collaborate with senior designers and manager to brainstorm and translate ideas into visual representations.

Who we would like to meet:

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design, Merchandising or equivalent.
  • Generally, 2+ years of proven success in product design in multiple categories at a leading consumer products company.
  • Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and CAD software.
  • Experience with PLM systems.
  • Strong fashion sense and the critical ability to identify and interpret trends and translate to commercial success.
