Description
What will you do? As the Associate in our Water team, you will lead Aurecon’s network and systems planning team in Auckland, working alongside a diverse group of engineers, planners, and technical specialists. You will drive the delivery of strategic water planning and integrated water management projects for clients across New Zealand and Australia. Your work will shape the future of water infrastructure, supporting communities and industries through innovative, resilient, and sustainable solutions. Key responsibilities include: Leading and managing water and wastewater network and systems planning projects from strategic master planning through network growth service planning to feasibility and concept design. Acting as the primary client contact, building strong relationships and delivering exceptional service. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure alignment with client objectives, regulatory requirements, and industry best practice. Managing project budgets, timelines, and resources for successful delivery. Providing technical mentorship and guidance to team members. Applying digital technology and modelling tools to innovate and optimise solutions. Identifying new business opportunities and supporting business development within the water sector. Staying current with industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies. Engaging directly with clients to solve challenges in water supply, network optimisation, resilience, and integrated water management. What can you bring to the team? You are passionate about re-imagining engineering and committed to continuous learning. You bring a blend of technical mastery, client focus, and commercial acumen, with the following skills and qualifications: Degree in Civil, Environmental, or Natural Resources Engineering. Professional accreditation – Chartered Professional Engineer. 10-15 years’ of significant experience in water networks and systems planning. Proven expertise in strategic planning, adaptive planning, integrated water management, and system optimisation. Strong technical skills in hydraulic modelling, optioneering, and scenario analysis. Familiarity with modelling and GIS software (e.g., InfoWorks ICM, TuFlow, Hec-Ras, Civil3D, 12D). Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, budgets, and resources. Excellent client-facing skills, with a track record of building relationships and delivering successful outcomes. Commercial awareness, including time and cost management, and compliance with reporting procedures. Understanding of the New Zealand regulatory environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. Experience in business development is desirable.
