The Opportunity
We are seeking an Associate to join our Portfolio Management Group (PMG) to specialize in Investment Placement.
The Portfolio Management Group oversees discretionary portfolios from initial proposals to portfolio construction and eventual winddown. Sitting at the crossroads of sales, investments, and operations, PMG helps to ensure thoughtful portfolio development and execution. This team is highly analytical and leverages expertise in private markets, statistics, econometrics, and data sciences.
Those who specifically focus on the Investment Placement function within PMG specialize in strategic planning and target strategy allocation and tilts; allocating investments working alongside the investment teams to place approved investments into active mandates where suitable; and defining and executing cash management strategies in conjunction with fund accounting and treasury teams.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to grow your responsibilities within PMG over time to include participation in Research and Strategy, Implementation and Oversight, or Performance Analytics, depending on team needs and your desire to expand your scope.
Within Investment Placement, the team further specializes alongside one or more of our investment teams. This role will work closely with credit investments, working closely with our Direct Credit team to oversee active portfolios, including our SCOPE semi-liquid product, as well as several new and exciting product launches.

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Work on new product development and help develop solutions to challenges around new product launches. Including working directly with Client Solutions to create portfolio proposals.
  • Manage relationships with other teams and develop a skillset in investment, operations, and product functions of the credit SMAs and funds.
  • Integrate with the Direct Credit team to opine on portfolio fit for investments.
  • Work alongside treasury to implement and track currency hedging and credit facilities for credit-oriented accounts.
  • Develop familiarity with existing investments in credit-oriented accounts and work directly with client and business development teams to support growth, responses to investor queries and present timely updates and analysis.
  • Train, mentor, and supervise junior analysts.

Your background will include:

  • 2+ years of experience in private markets, currency trading, or secured lending.
  • Bachelor’s degree. A graduate degree in a quantitative discipline is a plus.
  • Understanding of financial concepts and calculations with a solid understanding of financial statement analysis.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong attention to detail and ability to manage moving parts across a portfolio lifecycle.
  • Strong interest and commitment to private markets investing and portfolio management.
  • Strong work ethic and professional demeanor with a team-oriented approach and ability to interact productively across multiple verticals within Hamilton Lane.
  • Willingness to work 50+ hours/week; minimal travel expected.
  • Ability to operate in a high-pressure environment.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and high level of accountability.
  • Assist with other duties and special projects as needed.
  • The ability to work in the US without requiring sponsorship.
