Role description: Arcadis is seeking an Associate Principal to join our Retail Studio in the New York office. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative environment and will collaborate with other professionals on retail and mixed-use projects. We are looking for a creative, organized, motivated individual who is a self-starter and can work both independently and as part of a team. The candidate should possess strong oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent presentation and documentation abilities. The candidate must demonstrate design, technical and management capabilities at a senior level, an understanding of building and accessibility codes/standards and be capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously on various projects. The candidate should be able to handle client accounts, lead the execution of complex and significant retail projects, manage a studio team and have the ability to effectively collaborate with consultants, contractors, and clients. Role accountabilities: Partners with the studio principals to pursue business opportunities and develop relationships with clients Manages client accounts and the execution of significant projects Works with principals to establish strategic, planning and design visions for complex projects Managing and collaborating closely with team and senior staff supporting the design and technical tasks Communicates openly, embrace mentorship, and nurture the next generation of designers and technical staff Proactive decision-making in selecting appropriate methods and standards for managing staff and executing the work from the proposal stage through all project phases Overall design management and technical coordination, and coordinating project design and management with both internal and external stakeholders while ensuring quality control and project execution Resolving management, design and technical issues within the project scope and escalate as needed to ensure project objectives are met Qualifications & Experience: Professional licensure preferred 20+ years of experience, with a strong background in retail, architectural and mixed-use projects Advanced master-planning and building planning skills Excellent design and technical skills and experience Ability to advance a design through all project phases - from concept to detail development to documentation and project execution Experience designing domestic and international, specialty and luxury retail, hospitality and mixed-use projects Understanding of market trends of these sectors and ability to tailor designs to client's business objectives Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
