Department/Unit: Faculty of Engineering Closing Date: February 28, 2026 The Faculty of Engineering of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is now seeking an outstanding candidate in the area of the AI Computer Systems. The successful candidate will lead an innovative research program in cutting-edge AI computer system technologies. The position requires knowledge of both hardware and software aspects of large-scale AI systems. Areas of interest may include, but are not limited to: Advanced accelerator chip technologies, such as GPUs or other specialized chips for large-scale AI processing High-speed memory, interconnects, and data center architecture Efficient software stacks for training and deploying large-scale models (e.g., Llama, DeepSeek) in a data center or on on-premises servers Expertise in (or collaboration with experts in) ASIC design, high-bandwidth memory systems, ultra-speed data center networking, and related fields to push the boundaries of large-scale AI systems Applicants should have (i) a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline; (ii) a strong research track record demonstrated by high-impact publications, patents, or other scholarly outputs; (iii) substantial experience (research, development, or both) in computer systems for large-scale AI, especially focusing on hardware accelerators, data center architecture, co-packaged optics and/or software frameworks for state-of-the-art AI models; (iv) demonstrated ability to engage in collaborative and cross-disciplinary research and to mentor graduate students; and (v) potential or proven ability to obtain external research funding. Responsibilities The appointee will be expected to (a) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in computer systems, AI, and related areas; (b) establish an independent, externally funded research program in large-scale AI system design and development; (c) supervise and mentor graduate students; and (d) collaborate with faculty members within CUHK and externally to advance large-scale AI system research. There will be opportunities to collaborate with leading researchers across CUHK’s engineering disciplines as well as external partners, aiming to shape the future of large-scale AI. Appointment(s) will normally be made on contract basis for up to three years initially, which, subject to mutual agreement, may lead to longer-term appointment(s) or substantiation later.
