The Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University, invites applications for a position as Associate Professor (10%, 3.7 hours a week) in Geriatric Medicine with special focus on screening and prevention of accidental falls in older adults. The position is open from 1 Februay 2024 or soon hereafter. The Department of Clinical Medicine conducts research within all the clinical medical disciplines and provides teaching resources in all subject fields at the Faculty of Medicine of Aalborg University. The Department of Clinical Medicine has 40 affiliated research units organized in a series of cross-disciplinary research programs.The Geriatric Research Unit at the Department of Clinical Medicine, Aalborg University, conducts research at a high international level within a number of areas: balance and accidental falls, orthogeriatric, cognitive dysfunction, nutrition and hydration, hormones and metabolism. The main focus for the current position will be improvement of screening for falls in older adults, exploring cost-effective interventions to decrease the risk of falls in older adults, and finally, implementation of this research in Danish municipalities. Teaching and supervising medical students in research is an additional task of importance, and this task includes working with medical students in research at the final study-year at Aalborg University Hospital, a collaborative affiliation supports the position, which is restricted to a 10% associated professorship.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate is expected to have a strong research track record within the geriatric area with focus on accidental falls among older adults. In depth interests should include different aspects of muscle strength assessment and the use of healthy gaming for assessment and detection of physical functional performance, including the influence of ageing.
In addition, the successful applicant should be knowledgeable in designing clinical research and demonstrate the ability to use theory in practice to path the way for implementation. The applicant should have documented original scientific production at an international level and should be driven to take a leading role in expanding the research and teaching activities at the geriatric research unit at the Department of Clinical Medicine including supervision of Master’s and PhD students and mentoring of postdocs and pursuit of external funding for novel and innovative research collaborations.
The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.
