Position Summary:
The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Associate Program Director to join its Internal Medicine Residency Program. This position is intended for faculty with experience in teaching, leadership, innovation, and clinical service in an internal medicine residency program. Board certification in internal medicine is required; individuals with subspecialty training are also encouraged to apply.
This University-based program is sponsored by Florida Atlantic University in collaboration with our Graduate Medical Education Consortium. The Internal Medicine Residency utilizes three Consortium hospitals (Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Bethesda Hospital East, and Delray Medical Center) to provide a strong clinical experience and a broad diversity of patients. Residents are exposed to a comprehensive and balanced curriculum that prepares residents for careers in general internal medicine or medical subspecialties. Additionally, they have access to the College of Medicine’s Simulation Center.
The Associate Program Director will assist the Program Director and have a flexible role including direct teaching of residents and medical students, development of instructional materials and curricular design, supervision and evaluation of residents, advising and mentoring residents, and leadership in research and scholarship. The clinical component of this position will include inpatient hospital responsibilities serving as a teaching attending.
Responsibilities:
The mission of the Schmidt College of Medicine as a community-based medical school is to advance the health and well-being of our community by training future generations of humanistic clinicians and scientists and translating discovery to patient-centered care. We are committed to providing educational programs, in partnership with our hospital affiliates, that enable our medical students and residents to become active, self-directed, life-long learners; equip our graduates to effectively treat the patients that they are most likely to encounter in their practices; produce graduates with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-awareness required to practice effective, humanistic, patient-centered, evidence-based medicine; emphasize the centrality of collaborative relationships in the provision of the highest quality comprehensive health care; and foster and value collaboration among medical specialties, and between academic medicine and community health care professionals.
Our mission is to produce graduates who are prepared and motivated to play a central role in the achievement of three critical state goals: (1) providing the highest quality health care to Florida’s citizens; (2) assuring that the state has the requisite number of medical faculty required to support Florida’s medical schools and assure continued access to medical education opportunities in Florida; and (3) producing physician-scientists with the knowledge and skills required to become board-certified in internal medicine and embrace lifelong learning.
