Boeing Space, Intelligence & Weapons Systems has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Propulsion Engineer to join us as part of our Boeing Integrated Design Engineering team at the in El Segundo, CA. You will have an opportunity to provide design support in our satellite applications as well as support other exciting engineering projects spanning across various business units!
This position would entail operating as a Propulsion or Pumped Fluid Loop (PFL) responsible engineering authority (REA) for one or more development subsystems or components. Responsibilities may include: Requirements decomposition, verification and validation, component analysis, component test, non-conformance management, root cause and corrective action investigation, and supplier technical interface. Related experience with liquid or electric space propulsion, pumped fluid thermal control systems and associated liquid and gas plumbing is also beneficial.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • Associate level: typically 2 or more years’ related work experience or an
    equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE):

  • A successfully completed Tier 5 Investigation (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government is preferred

Responsibilities
  • Develops concepts for future subsystems/components to meet anticipated requirements
  • Responsible for Technical and Quality of subsystem/component
  • Responsible for NRE technical and execution (development testing & analysis) of subsystem/component development
  • Act as technical subject matter expert on assigned subsystems/components and associated technologies.
  • Responsible Engineer for compliance to subsystems/components level mechanical requirements & verification (mounting, stress, dynamics)
  • Understanding of functional requirements in coordination with systems engineering, ensure that subsystems/components meet functional requirement
  • Responsible to understand end-to-end processing of subsystem (manufacture, test, etc) and flow impacts of design to other stakeholders (AI&T, Structures, etc…)
  • Lead closure of component/subsystem NCRs through life cycle of subsystem
  • Identify subsystem level interaction between components (i.e. induced vibration, pressure cycles, FOD generation, heat transfer, etc)
  • Participate in Technical Evaluations & Cost Analyses for trade study downselects
  • Participate and Support with cost and schedule reduction initiatives
  • Provide bid estimates for new business proposals
  • Coordinate assembly, integration and test of fluid systems.
  • Perform safety assessments of fluid designs
  • Defines requirements for flow components and systems (tanks, pumps, valves, pressure regulators, etc).
  • Develops component specifications and validates requirement compliance.
  • Define and review various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation efforts to prove component requirement compliance.
  • Defines and oversees supplier certification tests for components.
  • Supports fielded components to assure continued reliability.
  • Coordinate non-conformances between supplier, internal and external customers.
  • Lead Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) investigations on component/system non-conformances
