Description:

ABOUT US

Engelhart was founded in 2013 by BTG Pactual Group as a commodities trading company. Its business model is “asset light” and highly diversified – giving it the ability to adapt effectively and nimbly to changing market conditions. It has assembled successful multidisciplinary teams, leveraging advanced fundamental analysis with deep quantitative and weather research capabilities. Its activities are underpinned by strong risk management practices and by powerful technology and operational excellence. Its exceptional teams have diverse global backgrounds and decades of experience, and are driven by a highly collaborative culture, across products and competencies.
In 2024, Engelhart acquired Trailstone, a global energy trading and technology company. The acquisition provides Engelhart with new expertise, analytics and proprietary technology which is used to provide risk management and optimisation services to manage the intermittency of renewable power generation for its client base. The acquisition also expanded Engelhart’s capabilities into physical natural gas across North America.
Its talented and experienced individuals work together according to its four company values: be bold, be collaborative, be proactive, be your best.

Responsibilities:

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Associate Quant Developer, you will receive excellent early career development as a member of our quant sub-team specializing in systematic power trading. The role will give you end-to-end exposure to and mentorship around the full algorithmic trading value chain, including systems development for automated trading, machine learning operations and dev-ops, power market fundamentals, trading signal evaluation, predicative modelling, and trade optimisation. Within this broad purview, your primary focus will be platform development, technology and operations.
In addition to generating trading revenues, many of our trading algorithms help reduce the balancing costs of the wind and solar parks that we manage, thereby contributing to the overall financial viability of the renewable energy sector while lowering the cost of electricity ultimately passed down to consumers. The role therefore offers a unique opportunity to have a social and environmental impact as part of a quantitative finance and technology career path.

This will be a full-time role, owning the following responsibilities:

  • Enhance software automating research and trading workflows.
  • Implement current and emerging best practices for dev-ops and ML-ops in coordination with Central Technology and Quant Systems Development teams.
  • Drive high operational uptime of trading systems through hands-on monitoring, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Uphold software engineering best practices.
  • Productionize models relating to prediction, optimization, uncertainty quantification, and performance attribution.
  • Grow revenue by translating domain expertise from other technical and commercial teams, or your own research, into algorithmic trading signals or strategy refinements.

In addition, the following qualifications are not required, but highly preferrable for this role:

  • SQL proficiency.
  • Academic or industry experience analyzing financial or energy markets
