Neogen is looking for an Associate Research Scientist to join our Microbiology Product Development team. In this role, you will support the innovation, development, and validation of novel food safety solutions while also contributing to the maintenance and improvement of existing products across Neogen’s Microbiology portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to apply scientific knowledge to impactful work in microbiology and food safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct experimental testing of product performance at various stages of production
  • Order and manage materials for project completion, ensuring appropriate budget coding
  • Prepare necessary reagents for experimental procedures
  • Record results, analyze data, and summarize findings for review with senior team members
  • Maintain detailed documentation in electronic files and laboratory notebooks
  • Present reports and analysis of experimental data as needed
  • May act as R&D representative on cross-functional project teams
  • Assist in training Research Technicians as required
  • Maintain laboratory instruments and records in compliance with 5S/GLP standards
  • Support troubleshooting of commercialized product performance
  • Develop a working knowledge of Neogen’s microbiological products and processes

Education and Experience:
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology or a related scientific field (such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biological Sciences), with a strong preference for candidates who have direct experience or coursework in microbiology. Relevant hands-on microbiology experience—whether academic, research-based, or in an industry setting—is highly valued for this role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2–4 years of research or laboratory experience focused on experimental execution, reagent prep, data recording and analysis
  • Familiarity with foodborne pathogens, spoilage organisms, and common microbiological culture media or diagnostic methods
