The Associate Scientist, in the Aging+ Cardiovascular Discovery Center (ACDC) in the laboratory of Dr. Raj Kishore, performs experiments related to cardiovascular injury, repair and regeneration. Executes research projects, collects and analyzes data, collaborates with lab members and other scientists; responsible for manuscript and grant writing and presentations at conferences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing, isolating and culturing various stem/primary cells from animal and clinical samples, isolation and characterization of extracellular vesicles/exosomes, gene/cell therapy experiments, breeding transgenic/knockout animals, cloning viral vectors, and performing in vitro and in vivo molecular biology and signaling experiments to investigate the mechanisms involved in the regulation of cardiac injury and repair.
  • Responsible for technical leadership and consultation to co-workers and staff
  • Applying diversified knowledge of scientific research principles, practices, and protocols in research project
  • Assisting with preparing grant proposals and manuscripts
  • Maintaining laboratory equipment and keeping accurate records on all experiments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal investigator.

Required Education & Experience:
Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology, physiology or related field and at least four years of postdoctoral experience related to cardiovascular disease models.

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • 5+ years demonstrated confocal microscopy and live imaging experience as well as high proficiency using imaging software.
  • Familiar with cardiac injury models such as myocardial infarction, ischemia-reperfusion and signaling pathways as they relate to the cardiovascular system
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and advise students both at undergraduate and graduate level and highly collaborative with a diverse population of faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once, operate standard office equipment and software including MS Office and Photoshop.
  • Expertise in a broad range of molecular and cellular techniques, histology, Flow Cytometry, cell-based functional assays, transgenic animal modeling.
