The Team and Your Role
We’re a tight-knit, diverse team that believes software innovation is at the heart of creating value with AI. We’re seeking an Associate Software Engineer to join our supportive team and begin their professional journey in software development. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and researchers who are invested in your growth and development, contributing to innovative AI solutions in a cloud environment while building foundational skills in a collaborative environment where people feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work.

What You Will Do:

• Foundational Development: Contribute to backend systems using Python/Java with guidance from senior SDEs, working on smaller, well-defined technical projects with a focus on building strong foundational skills in software development
• Code Quality: Design small modules and functions, participate in code reviews, and learn to apply coding standards and best practices
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members, participate in daily stand-ups, and help achieve project goals within your technical area
• Problem Solving: Work on problems of moderate scope, analyzing data and applying judgment within defined procedures and practices
• Communication: Explain technical issues to team members and work to build alignment around project tasks and objectives
• Continuous Learning: Demonstrate hunger to learn new technologies, ask questions respectfully, and take constructive feedback to continuously improve

Required Skills & Experience:

• Education: University degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, or related disciplines (Hons 2.1 or higher preferred), or equivalent experience with less than 2 years in the industry
• Programming Foundation: Basic theoretical knowledge in a single programming language (Python or Java preferred) with strong coding skills and problem-solving abilities
• Data Structures & Algorithms: Understanding of basic data structures (arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues) and algorithms (sorting, searching)
• Design Principles: Basic understanding of OOP principles (classes, inheritance, encapsulation) and simple design patterns (Singleton, Factory)
• Development Tools: Basic understanding of version control (Git commands like clone, commit, push, pull) and familiarity with Jira
• Learning Mindset: Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn, with evidence of personal projects or initiative beyond mandatory coursework
• Team Collaboration: Ability to work within a team, communicate effectively, and build alignment around common objectives

Desirable - The following would be great additions but are not required:

• Clean Code Practices: Introduction to clean code principles (readability, maintainability, naming conventions)
• Agile Understanding: Basic understanding of Agile principles and practices beyond daily stand-ups
• CI/CD Awareness: Basic familiarity with CI/CD tooling and processes
• Product Knowledge: Interest in understanding product features and their broader context
• Personal Projects: Evidence of software development interest through personal projects or contributions

Growth Path:
As an Associate Software Engineer, you’ll focus on self-development and building a strong foundation in software development. With our team’s support, you’ll gradually take on more complex tasks, work with increasing independence, and begin to influence project outcomes.
