Job Description
We are presently recruiting for an Associate to join the Structured Credit group, within Capital Solutions, in the Credit Investments (CI) department in Toronto, Canada. The Associate will play a key role in making and managing principal credit investments in North America, including investments in structured products and lending to financials companies. They will assist the team in evaluating investment opportunities, analyzing asset portfolios, developing sophisticated pricing and valuation models, conducting statistical research, developing investment recommendations, participating in the execution, monitoring, and management of investments. The team has an affable and supportive culture and is looking for someone who will grow with the group over time.
TEAM SUMMARY
Credit Investments currently manages assets in excess of $50 billion; investment deal sizes range from $50M to over $1B. The Credit Investments team has over 120 investment professionals across North America, Europe and Asia. The Structured Credit group invests in pools of loans and other credit-like or idiosyncratic assets and provides capital solutions to financial companies. Typical investments include purchasing or financing portfolios of consumer loans or commercial assets such as aircraft or royalties, subordinated lending to specialty finance businesses, and investments in collateralized loan obligations (‘CLOs’) and asset-backed securities (‘ABS’).
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Research, analyze and evaluate investment opportunities across multiple sectors.
- Build complex dynamic financial models to analyze investment opportunities, asset portfolios and financing structures with the capability to test assumptions and sensitivities and run scenario analyses and simulations.
- Stratify and analyze large data sets to identify historical performance trends, detect correlations, identify key drivers and derive key assumptions for projection period.
- Assist in preparing presentation materials and presenting investment recommendations to Investment Committees.
- Interact with external parties’ key to the investment process, including management teams, loan sellers, legal counsel, auditors, banks and leverage providers, among others.
- Execute investment opportunities, including reviewing legal documentation, working with internal operations, developing transaction structures; and
- Ongoing monitoring of portfolio investments and reporting performance highlights to Structured Credit and Investment Committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 1 to 4 years of experience post undergraduate studies in either credit investing or at a financial services firm focused on structured credit, financials M&A, direct lending, CLOs, or High Yield or whole loan portfolio trading/investing, including financing such portfolios.
- Experience in conducting complicated due diligence work under a compressed timeline, contributing to deal sourcing activities and working with external stakeholders (e.g., management, sponsors, investment banks, etc.).
- Expertise in financial modelling and accounting is important for this profile. Expertise in modeling structured finance portfolios and using securitization valuation tools (e.g., Intex, DV01, Excel) is a plus.; and
- US or International market experience is an asset including understanding of market conventions/structures.
