Description St. James Catholic Church in Midtown Kansas City, Missouri is a synodal parish, effectively lay-led and governed by all its baptized members in meetings that foster Spirit-guided conversation and encounter. We have a current opening for a part-time employee to support our Synodal Parish Director in the practical running of a Catholic parish including its day-to-day operations. Duties Providing clerical and technical support to our Synodal Parish Director in the daily operation of the parish. Answering phone and written communications. Assisting in conducting efficient meetings on important and often controversial issues to get consensus. This will require occasional attendance at evening or weekend (Sunday) meetings. Fostering and supporting volunteers and designing ways for a diverse community to engage one another and build unity. Working closely with the Leadership Team, the Finance Council, and the Bookkeeper to ensure the smooth operation of the business office and to help monitor and grow the Parish’ financial stability. Acting as the Parish’ Safe Environment Coordinator. Spiritual perspective We seek a person of faith. The Synodal model requires a faith perspective, a strong belief that the community has as its central source the person of the Crucified and Risen Christ guiding his church. Qualifications A Catholic background, familiarity with Catholic Social Justice values, commitment to social development, human dignity and principles of diversity, equality and inclusiveness is a must. A bachelor’s degree in areas related to community organization and problem solving is desired but not required.
