Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking an Associate Tutor to join the School of Historical Studies on a part-time basis this coming academic year 2025-26.

Within the School, Birkbeck teaches a range of Philosophy subjects. As Associate Tutor you would support the following modules:

  • The Philosophy of Nietzsche (term 1)
  • Artificial Intelligence and the Ethics of Technology (term 1)
  • Philosophy of Artificial Intelligence: Minds, Machines and Meaning (term 1)
  • Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (term 2)
  • Language and Metaphysics (term 2)
  • Philosophy of Mind and Cognitive Science (term 2)
  • The Ethics of Life and Death: Humans, Animals and the Environment (term 2)
  • Themes in Twentieth Century French and German Philosophy (term 3)
  • Ancient and Medieval Philosophy (term 3)
  • Women in Philosophy (term 3)

You are asked to indicate on your application which modules(s) you are interested in applying for and your qualifications and skills to undertake them. Please also indicate any scheduling constraints, including terms, days and times.
Each module involves 15 hours of seminar teaching (90 minutes x 10 weeks). Additionally post holders will be expected to attend lectures. The seminar groups meet for one hour once a week after lectures. Lectures are 6-7.30pm, with seminars 7.30-9pm.
You will have knowledge and experience of teaching philosophy and be qualified to the corresponding level of the award as required to teach (or demonstrate equivalent professional/industry level experience). Please refer to the person specification for further selection criteria.
