Job Description Summary The Associate Vice President of Finance is a highly visible, mission-critical leadership role that supports the success of key University initiatives. Reporting to the COO/CFO, the Associate Vice President works in close partnership with the COO/CFO to provide strong, forward-thinking financial leadership, planning, and oversight for the University. The Associate Vice President serves as the chief financial advisor to the COO/CFO on matters related to budgeting, financial operations, cashflow, and long-range financial strategy. The position directly supervises the Controller and the AP/Procurement/Sponsored Billing Manager. Candidates with experience working in a Catholic university or faith-based higher education environment are strongly preferred. Job Description DUTIES AND TASKS Note: The following duties are illustrative and not exhaustive. Management may assign additional responsibilities as needed. The Associate Vice President’s primary responsibilities include: Providing energetic and strategic leadership in developing and implementing the University’s short- and long-range budget and financial plans in alignment with the strategic plan. Developing, managing, and monitoring the University’s annual operating budget, including revenue modeling, cashflow forecasting, and multi-year planning. Overseeing financial aspects of facilities and capital planning initiatives, including project budgeting, financing strategies, and long-term capital forecasting. Enhancing and managing University financial systems, processes, controls, and reporting to support accuracy, efficiency, and transparency. Analyzing financial and operational practices and recommending improvements that increase efficiency, reduce costs, and strengthen financial performance. Providing strong leadership and administrative support to Business Affairs operations. Working collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure budgeting is clearly linked to planning and institutional priorities. Recommending, implementing, and evaluating strategies and financial plans to ensure the University achieves its short- and long-term financial objectives. Interacting regularly with senior leadership, the President, and Trustees regarding financial matters, and serving as a leader for major University initiatives within Finance and Administration. Managing partnership financial arrangements, including affiliated entities, revenue-sharing models, and financial components of strategic partnerships. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES The successful candidate will demonstrate: Proven leadership and management experience appropriate to a private university, preferably within a Catholic higher-education setting. Strong analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills. Expertise in cashflow management, financial modeling, forecasting, and budget administration. Experience managing or overseeing financial aspects of partnerships, joint ventures, or affiliated organizations. Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels and communicate clearly with both financial and non-financial stakeholders. High personal and professional integrity, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. A high level of energy, initiative, and creativity, with a strong commitment to customer service and continuous improvement. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field required. Minimum of five years’ experience in a private college/university. CPA designation or candidates must be actively progressing toward CPA licensure. Master’s degree or CPA required; candidates possessing both are preferred. Ten years of progressively responsible experience in private higher education preferred. Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
