POSITION OVERVIEW
The Assistant Electrician provides hands-on support to the project’s electrical team during installation, testing, maintenance, and commissioning of electrical systems. Working under close supervision, this role helps ensure all electrical work complies with project specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation Support
- Assist in laying, routing, securing, and terminating power and control cables (up to 33 kV) for underground, overhead, and substation projects.
- Help install cable trays, conduits, junction boxes, and cable glands.
- Support mounting and wiring of switchgear, distribution panels, transformers, motor control centers, and lighting fixtures.
- Testing & Commissioning
- Prepare and connect test equipment (meggers, multimeters, insulation testers) under guidance.
- Record voltage, insulation resistance, and continuity readings and report anomalies.
- Assist in system energization and functional checks.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Aid in planned preventive maintenance (cleaning, tightening connections, lubrication).
- Help diagnose and rectify simple electrical faults (shorts, broken conductors, loose terminations).
- Site Housekeeping & Tool Care
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of work areas.
- Clean, inspect, and store hand tools and test instruments after use.
- Report damaged tools or equipment to the Lead Electrician.
- Safety & Compliance
- Follow company HSE policies and site-specific safety plans at all times.
- Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, helmets, arc-flash suits, and safety boots.
- Participate in toolbox talks and safety briefings; report unsafe conditions immediately.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Education:
- Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or equivalent.
- Vocational/technical certificate in Electrical Technology or related trade is highly desirable.
- Experience:
- 1–2 years of hands-on experience assisting in electrical installation or maintenance, preferably on power distribution or industrial projects.
- Familiarity with GCC electrical standards (e.g., DEWA, ESMA) is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of electrical theory: Ohm’s Law, circuit behavior, AC/DC systems.
- Competence in using electrical hand tools (strippers, cutters, torque wrenches) and common test instruments.
- Ability to read and interpret single-line diagrams, panel schedules, and basic wiring drawings.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and take direction from senior electricians and engineers.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift and carry up to 25 kg repeatedly.
- Comfortable working at heights, in confined spaces, and outdoors in hot climates.
