The North Dakota Center for Persons with Disabilities (NDCPD) at Minot State University is recruiting applicants to serve as a Student Advisor and Employment Coordinator for the Advancing Students Toward Education and Employment Program (ASTEP) Project (https://ndcpd.org/ASTEP/). This project assists students with a disability attend college courses, earn meaningful credits, gain employment and learn independent living and social skills. Below is a list of specific project duties:

  • Set and Lead PCP (person centered planning) meetings with Student, Parents, ASTEP staff, and Community Partners; share and provide updates; and Implement PCP goals
  • Advise students and meet regularly. Address student needs and follow up
  • Report student progress to families and agencies
  • Update student portfolio information regularly
  • Residential and meal planning with students
  • Communication with academic and employment advisors, mentors, and parents; and provide support
  • Support academic and employment coordinator roles
  • Gather and review mentor feedback
  • Plan and co-facilitate regular mentor meetings; and assist with development of weekly staff meeting agenda
  • Develop and coordinate employment opportunities with all ASTEP students and employers.
  • Assess and plan for any employment needs for all ASTEP students and employers.

Other miscellaneous duties depending on project assignments are listed below:

  • Become knowledgeable about NDCPD and carry out the assigned project goals and activities.
  • Develop/disseminate material (instructional materials, articles, brochures, presentations, technical reports).
  • Provide technical assistance and/or consultation to individuals, agencies and consumers.
  • Provide training and present at meetings and conferences.
  • Perform research and data analysis that impact individuals with disabilities.
  • Participate in agency, statewide, and national planning/policy groups to address unmet needs and emerging issues.
  • Coordinate, conduct, participate, and travel to meetings and conferences both in and out of state.
  • Develop other external funding resources to further disability research, services, training and technical assistance.
  • Participate in internal NDCPD committees and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred; other degree levels and/or experience will be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with a degree in a human service field (education, social work, psychology, communication disorders, etc.). Preference will be given to candidates with experience in a disability-related field. Applicants with experience in giving presentations, writing technical reports and/or grants, and basic research activities helpful but not necessary. Applicant must be self-directed and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time efficiently; have the ability to contribute to a fast-paced, changing work environment and contribute to the success of the project and reputation of NDCPD; have the ability to interact and communicate professionally with people with disabilities, constituents and staff; be able operate standard office equipment and software. In addition, chosen candidate must successfully complete a criminal background check.
