Description Athletic and Fitness Director Hours: Full Time, Exempt (M-TR 11:00am – 7:30pm, F 9:00am – 5:30pm, and some weekends may be required) Department: Athletics and Fitness Reports to: Director of Programs Salary: $48,000 to $51,000 Benefits: PTO, paid holidays, medical insurance, dental, vision, life insurance, STD, LTD, Retirement plan, employee discount on programs and free fitness membership. The purpose of this job description is to report the functions, requirements, working conditions, and athletic/social recreation responsibilities of the Athletic and Fitness Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Athletic and Fitness Director is responsible for overseeing the delivery of a broad range of athletic, social recreation and fitness programs to members of all ages. Primary functions include but are not limited to the planning, developing, implementation and supervision of programs and program staff. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare Members for Success: • Plan and oversee the administration and supervision of designated athletic, social recreational, and fitness programs, classes and activities that support youth, family and adult development outcomes. • Establish athletic, social recreation, and fitness objectives consistent with organizational goals and mission. • Oversee the provision of day-to-day program activities in accordance with established organizational standards and goals. • Ensure that members are encouraged to participate in a variety of program areas/activities and receive instruction and constructive feedback to develop skills in program area(s). • Recruit members to participate in athletic programs and recruit new fitness memberships • Recruit, train, and supervise coaches/volunteers to run athletic programs and insure that they are complying with volunteer protocols. • Demonstrate leadership and guidance to assure conduct, safety and development. • Oversee and maintain safe and clean program areas such as gymnasium, fitness room and outside fields. • Conduct new member orientations and provide education and training on proper use of fitness equipment available to members. • Supervise and lead staff, design program plans, and oversee daily programs. • Manage Department Budget. Program Development and Implementation: • Responsible for developing new and existing programs, as well as running programs. • Establish and maintain program goals and settings that insure the health and safety of members. • Ensure that staff and coaches/volunteers understand and effectively communicate standards of program. • Ensure cleanliness of athletic and fitness areas and that program areas are safe, well ventilated and well lit; and that equipment is maintained in good working condition. • Ensure the evaluation of athletic, social recreational and fitness programs respond to member needs and address their gender and cultural diversity. • Prepare monthly schedules for the fitness room and gymnasium. • Develop and monitor the Athletic and fitness Departments annual budget ensuring that programs and activities are operated within established budgetary guidelines. • Responsible for outcome measurement processes and evaluations as related to athletic and fitness programming. • Develop and maintain athletic, social recreation, and fitness programs and classes for youth through adulthood that offers a wide range of athletic, fitness, and wellness opportunities for members. • Conduct administrative duties which include but are not limited to: intake of new members, hiring of new staff, maintaining staff and volunteer records, and inventory of equipment and supplies Supervision: • Allocate, monitor and manage staff and volunteers, ensuring productive and effective performance. • Provide ongoing feedback and regular appraisal, and identify and support professional development opportunities. • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues. • Ensure productive and effective performance by all staff and volunteers. Marketing and Public Relations: • Work with various departments to increase visibility of athletic, social recreational and fitness programs via posting of daily schedule, announcement of upcoming events and the dissemination of timely information for the development of advertising and promotion through mailings, fliers and media releases. • Establish a network and develop on-going relationships with community members. • Create effective partnerships with outside agencies such as schools, sports leagues and other Boys & Girls Clubs. • Develop ways to enroll new members. Additional Responsibilities: • May oversee special programs and/or tournaments/clinics and/or participate in the implementation of other activities as necessary. • May consult with parents concerning member issues. • May be required to conduct and participate in various organizational fundraisers. • May be required to assist in program areas outside of normal responsibilities. • Responsible for closing the building. Relationships: Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with club staff (professional, part time and volunteer), club youth, family and adult members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain or interpret guidelines/instructions; instruct, and advise/counsel. External: Maintain contact as needed schools, member’s parents and other to assist in resolving problems. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education / Experience: Four-year degree in physical education, sport management leisure studies or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience. A minimum of three years’ work experience in a Boys and Girls Club or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the development needs of youth, families and adult programs. Must possess or be willing to obtain a national accredited Personal Training Certification, or related certification, and/or Group Exercise Instructor Certification preferred. WORKING CONDITIONS: Moving about from location to location or point to point to perform tasks of the job. Coordination of multiple projects; must be able to push, pull, lift and/or carry at least 25lbs; as well as climb stoop and/or kneel, reach, talk, hear and see. Irregular hours depending on the season; outdoor and indoor work.
