Description The MS Competition Dance Team Coach reports to the Building Principal, Assistant Principal, and Building Lead and works closely with administration staff, faculty, students, and parents. The MS Dance Team Coach should have experience in competitive dance and experience as a dance coach or instructor is preferred. Requirements The MS Dance Coach must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to communicate and relate well to both children and adults. This person should project a professional appearance at all times. This person should have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability in the program and communicate effectively with parents and students. Responsibilities to students include: Be a role model for children Value diversity and provide, as much as possible, for individual needs Treat each child with dignity and respect Be empathetic and caring Be responsible for the planning, supervision, and implementation of the program in accordance with the policies of the school Evaluate student progress in dance, social and emotional areas Help each child develop a positive sense of self-worth, of independence, and a sense of responsibility and self-direction Maintain confidentiality of individual students Responsibilities to the School include: Have knowledge of coaching best practices Submit all records, reports, evaluations, inventories, etc. promptly Maintain the Dance team practice and competition schedule and make sure school is updated for the school wide calendar. Keep records of roster, expenses, among other things to ensure correct billing for club fees. Report charges for Dance team fees to Beth Mozingo in the business office as soon as roster and fees are finalized. Communicate clearly team standards, schedules, fees, etc. to supervisor and all Dance team member families. Work with supervisor and school staff to secure a scheduled practice location and times Provide a structured practice environment Be the primary person in charge of any disciplinary measures as they pertain to team standards and procedures Maintain professional appearance and behave in a manner appropriate to the position Perform reliably and dependably with a good record of attendance, punctuality, flexibility and time management Develop team related goals and objectives Value and support members of the school community Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times Research, promote and/or provide opportunities for skill development as related to competitive dance Adhere to concussion policies for all students and communicate with teachers when a student is in concussion protocol. Adhere to all school policies as contained in the CAK Employee Handbook Responsibilities to parents and the community include: Meet with parents at the beginning of each season to review/preview the standards, schedule, plan for the season and answer any questions parents may have. Return phone calls and emails promptly Maintain confidentiality Encourage good parent-coach relations Be a role model in the community Responsibilities for professional growth and development include: Attend and participate in professional conferences, lectures, or other educational events as it pertains to competitive dance Attain membership in appropriate dance organizations (if needed for competitions) Participate in end of season program evaluations with Supervisor Other duties as assigned by Middle School Principal The Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) coach must be a spiritually sensitive individual who understands the school's mission and philosophy. The coach must also be a born-again Christian with spiritual maturity and the leadership abilities to teach God’s truth. Skills in effective communication with diverse individuals, appropriately handling confidential information, and maintaining a courteous, professional, and respectful attitude and integrity in all situations are prerequisites.
