Overview The London Borough of Harrow has an exciting new opportunity for a Attendance Officer to join its Education Services. The post holder will support the work of schools to ensure that Education Services carries out its statutory duties and responsibilities to the highest possible standards. You must also ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with legislation and Harrow’s policies and procedures, in improving the attendance of statutory aged primary and secondary students and in identifying and tracking children who are missing education. As Attendance Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking all the duties and responsibilities as set out in the role profile including supporting school attendance, children missing education and electively home educated pupils. Furthermore, you will support schools and the Local Authority to meet the legal requirements in applying for Education Penalty Notices and court prosecution and tracking children missing education. About You The successful candidate will have: A clear understanding of the legislative framework within which inclusion services and other LA functions are provided in relation to attendance, exclusion from school and child protection. Detailed knowledge of child protection procedures. Detailed knowledge of strategies to promote liaison and interaction with parents, schools and other educational provision. An understanding of the key issues related to persistent absenteeism and the needs of disaffected young people and families. Ability to hold multi-agency discussions with a variety of statutory agencies. Effective written, verbal and presentation skills. Experience of liaison at a senior level with head teachers, governors and officers, and officers of other agencies. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to form and maintain appropriate professional relationships and boundaries with children and parents.
